Role Description
Manager: Manages experienced professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments. Focuses on policy and strategy implementation for short-term results (1 year or less). Faces difficult to moderately complex problems. Influences others outside of their own job area regarding policies, practices and procedures. Strategic (30%) –“big picture” perspective, more time spent on the “what” vs. the “how”, Tactical (40%) –focused on the plans to achieve goals and objectives –the “how”, Transactional (30%) –carries out defined steps.
Manages a team. Establishes short-term operational plans with measurable contributions towards the achievement of results. Provides measurable input to new products ,processes, or standards in operational plans that have an impact on the achievement of overall function results. Manages certain processes or projects within a defined budget set by management, but usually does not have budget or P&L accountability. Directs short and long-term staffing needs for Department/Function and people development.
Communicates with those within and outside of their area of responsibility as well as external parties (like customers or vendors). Explains policies, practices, and procedures within their job area to others within the Bank. Works to justify and gain cooperation from other parties on practices, policies, and procedures. Influences others outside of their own job area on policies, practices, and procedures.
Requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects, and tactics within their job area. Has advanced knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline - and has an understanding of the impact of their work on other areas of the Bank. Master of core functional area and how it fits within FRBNY and competitive environment.
Leads moderate to significant improvements to processes, systems, or products to enhance performance within their area of responsibility. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Constructs and may pursue alternative paths towards a solution. Exercises judgment in selecting method, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results consistent with broadly defined policies and practices. Problem/Task resolution timeframe: Inclusive of shorter timeframes, but typically six to twelve months or more to resolve.
