What are the responsibilities and job description for the Employment Attorney position at Federal Litigation Group?
Employment Attorney / Managing Attorney — Part-Time
Federal Litigation Group LLP | Washington, DC
Federal Litigation Group is launching a modern, growth-focused law firm in Washington, DC, and we’re looking for an experienced employment attorney to serve as Managing Attorney and help lead the legal side of the practice.
This is not a full-time position. The firm intends to maintain a deliberately limited caseload of approximately 10–20 active clients at a time, making this an excellent opportunity for an attorney seeking meaningful secondary income while maintaining an existing practice, position, or other professional commitments.
Why This Is Different
Most firms expect you to bring the business. We already have the client acquisition infrastructure in place.
- Established lead generation and marketing system
- Startup, advertising, and operating costs covered
- Administrative and operational support
- Existing infrastructure for generating client opportunities
- Intentionally limited caseload of approximately 10–15 active clients
You focus on practicing law, supervising matters, and leading the legal side of the firm—we handle the business infrastructure.
The Role
As Managing Attorney, you will:
- Lead and supervise legal matters accepted by the firm
- Provide legal strategy, analysis, and client representation
- Ensure compliance with DC Bar and applicable professional rules
- Oversee case selection and execution
- Help shape the firm's legal direction and future growth
The position is designed to remain flexible and part-time, particularly during the firm's initial growth phase.
Practice Areas
- Employment Law
- EEOC & MSPB Proceedings
- Federal litigation in DC
- Administrative law matters
- Strategic referrals to outside counsel when appropriate
Compensation Structure
Designed to provide immediate compensation for legal work along with meaningful long-term upside:
- $75–$125/hour for billable legal work
- 50% ownership interest in the firm
- 30% of net earnings generated through associate attorneys, of-counsel relationships, referred matters, and court-awarded fees
Rather than requiring a full-time commitment, the structure is intended to provide secondary income with equity and participation in the firm's growth.
Ownership & Upside
- Structured partnership model already in place
- Meaningful ownership from the ground floor
- Opportunity to participate in long-term firm growth
- Ability to help build a new legal brand without taking on the cost and administrative burden of launching a firm independently
Who This Is For
This opportunity may be particularly attractive to an attorney who:
- Already has a practice, position, or other professional commitments
- Wants additional income without taking on another full-time job
- Wants autonomy and leadership without an overwhelming caseload
- Is entrepreneurial and interested in firm ownership
- Values the upside of building something rather than simply billing additional hours
Requirements
- Licensed attorney and member of the DC Bar
- Must reside in DC, Maryland, or Virginia and be available for occasional in-person court appearances
- Employment law and/or federal litigation experience
- Strong litigation, writing, and analytical skills
- High professional and ethical standards
The Bottom Line
This is not intended to become another 40–60 hour-per-week law firm job.
We are intentionally building a focused practice with approximately 15-20 active clients at a time. The goal is to create an opportunity where the Managing Attorney can earn additional income, hold a meaningful ownership stake, and help build the firm while continuing other professional work.
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule
- Parental leave
- Professional development assistance
- Referral program
Salary : $75 - $125
