FDRsafety is seeking a Director of EHS for a large construction client in the Denver, CO area. The Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for overseeing and advancing the organization’s safety culture across multiple business units and geographic regions. This senior leadership role ensures compliance with all applicable safety regulations, guides strategic safety initiatives, and leads a team of regional safety professionals.
The ideal candidate will drive continuous improvement in safety performance, implement industry-leading practices, and foster a proactive, zero-incident safety culture that minimizes risk and promotes the well-being of all employees.
Salary Range: $150,000–$225,000 per year
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive company-wide safety policies and procedures aligned with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and other applicable safety standards.
- Lead, mentor, and provide strategic guidance to Regional Safety Directors to ensure consistency in safety compliance and performance across all locations.
- Establish and monitor KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to evaluate safety outcomes, identify trends, and lead corrective action plans.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and site visits to ensure regulatory compliance and a culture of accountability.
- Lead investigations into safety incidents, perform root cause analyses, and develop proactive strategies to mitigate future risks.
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and executive leadership to integrate safety at all stages of project planning and execution.
- Design and deliver employee training programs at all levels to enhance safety awareness and ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for OSHA and other regulatory agencies, clients, and subcontractors regarding safety compliance and investigations.
- Champion continuous improvement efforts to reduce injuries, improve engagement, and promote a culture of safe work practices.
- Oversee the allocation of safety resources and manage budgets for safety initiatives across regions.
- Lead emergency preparedness and crisis response planning, ensuring teams are equipped to respond to various operational risks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10 years of progressive EHS leadership experience within mechanical construction, general construction, industrial services, or related fields.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT, ANSI).
- Industry certifications strongly preferred (e.g., CSP, CHST, ASP, GSP).
- Experience managing multi-region teams and implementing enterprise-level EHS programs.
- Strong leadership, communication, and influence skills with a demonstrated ability to promote organizational change.
- Proficiency in safety data analysis, reporting, and using technology tools to track compliance and incident trends.
- Ability to travel regularly to regional sites and field operations.
Travel Requirements
Frequent travel to regional operations and project sites as needed (approximately 25–40%).
