Primary Purpose of the Organization:

The Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades, Reading, and Special Education offers three baccalaureate degrees and two master’s degrees, with various concentrations. These programs lead to an initial or advanced North Carolina license. In addition, the Department offers four North Carolina initial licensure-only programs for candidates who already hold a bachelor’s degree.

  • Middle Grades (6-9)
  • M.A.T. ( Elementary, Middle Grades, and Birth through Kindergarten)
  • M.Ed. ( Elementary, Reading, and Middle Grades)
  • Licensure Only ( B-K, K-6, Middle Grades, Reading, and Special Education)


Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades, Reading, and Special Education in the College of Education at Fayetteville State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. This is a tenure-track position.

The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, or a closely related fieldfrom an accredited university. A minimum of three years of successful K–6 teaching experience is required.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, assessing student learning outcomes, and participating in departmental, college, and accreditation activities as assigned by the Dean and Department Chair. The candidate is expected to uphold academic standards, demonstrate effective use of educational technology and digital learning tools, engage in scholarly and professional activities, and show a strong commitment to excellence in public higher education and teacher preparation.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Earned a doctorate in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, or a closely related fieldfrom an accredited university.
  • A minimum of three years of successful K–6 teaching experience is required.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Evidence of scholarly or professional engagement.


Knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Maintain academic standards.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to use educational technology and digital teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate scholarly activity and display a commitment to public higher education.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mathematics education and experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Elementary Education, including methods of teaching mathematics, social studies, language arts, science, and/or reading.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate expertise in designing and implementing effective mathematics instruction aligned with current research and state standards.
  • Evidence of mentoring undergraduate students, providing service to the department, college, and university, and engaging in research, grant writing, and other scholarly activities.
  • The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and a passion for preparing highly effective teachers.
  • A record of professional and community engagement is also expected.
  • The department seeks candidates who will contribute to the diversity, equity, and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service, and who will advance efforts to improve mathematics achievement and pedagogical innovation within elementary education.
