A growing independent CPA firm in the Murrieta area is looking for a Tax Manager to take ownership of client relationships, lead engagements end-to-end, and help shape the firm's presence in this market. This is a hands-on role at a modern, advisory-oriented practice - not a siloed compliance position.
The role
You'll manage the full accounting and tax cycle for a portfolio of business and individual clients - from reconciliations and financial reporting through projections, planning, and return preparation. You'll be the primary point of contact for your clients, with real autonomy over how engagements are run and the support of a collaborative partner group.
The firm is actively building out their local footprint, so there's genuine scope to influence how the practice develops - the kind of opportunity that rarely exists at a larger firm.
What you'll be working on
- Managing business and individual tax engagements from start to finish
- Preparing and reviewing returns across entity types
- Proactive tax planning and strategic client guidance
- Primary client relationship management
- Mentoring and developing junior team members
- Driving process improvements and technology adoption
What they're looking for
- Active CPA license
- 10 years in public accounting, with strong California state tax exposure
- Track record of managing engagements independently
- Comfortable across the full engagement spectrum - detailed accounting work through high-level advisory
- Strong communicator with an ownership mindset
- Tech-fluent and open to modern tools and workflows
