Job purpose
The purpose of this position is to greet, direct, and schedule patients and visitors serving as the first and final contact with people entering and leaving the clinic. This position will provide excellent customer service, accurate data input, and maintain a pleasant disposition.
Duties and responsibilities
Information Input
- Inputs accurate information in all required fields:
- name, address, social security number, phone number(s), date of birth, referring physician, primary care physician, emergency contact, and any other data provided by the patient
- Insurance information (for one or more insurances depending on patient) including member number, group number, insurance company, effective date, copay (when applicable), and insurance holder.
- Patient health information including pharmacy and drug allergies for new patients and patients updating paperwork
- Scans all updated insurance cards and paperwork into appropriate locations in the EMR and PM system
Clinic Preparation
- Prepares and prints daily encounters and charge slips for all patients on the Athens schedule and outlying clinics as directed.
- Pulls referrals from referral drawer for all new patients to attach to prepared charts.
Patient Scheduling
- Schedules follow up appointments per provider direction after patient appointment.
- Provides appointment reminder card to patient for follow up visit.
Customer Service
- Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
- Speaks loud and clear so patients can hear and respond.
- Screens all patients arrive at the practice, responding to routine requests for information, and directing all requests as necessary and when required.
- Responsible for timeliness of patient flow.
Billing Support Services
- Collects patient copays and remaining balance (when applicable) from patient at time of service
- Provides patient with receipt of transaction
- Posts patient payments to account accurately, at time of collection
- Collects all charge slips and submits to billing manager daily
- Provides original Day Sheet and signed Receipts to billing manager at the end of each day to support in closing the books
Other Duties
- Supports phone room by answering phone call overflow and scheduling patients as necessary
- Performs schedule changes as requested by management including phone call notification of patients
- Acts as a member of the team that rotates early and late clinic responsibilities
- Travel to other locations to support clinics when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- High school education or G.E.D. equivalent
- Previous experience with computer applications
- Previous customer service experience
Preferred
- Possess the tact to deal effectively with patients, physicians and other employees in the practice.
- Possess a knowledge of office procedures and office equipment as well medical terminology.
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Monday - Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Job Type: Full-time
