On-Farm Assistant (Full-Time, Seasonal)
Position: On-Farm Assistant
Compensation: $20/hour
Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
Duration: March 1 – December 1
Position Overview:
We are seeking dedicated On-Farm Assistants to support daily farm operations throughout the growing season. This role is a full-time seasonal position with up to 40 hours per week available. While not classified as permanent year-round employment, it provides a stable and structured work schedule during the March–December period. On-Farm Assistants play a critical role in maintaining smooth farm operations and supporting the vegetable, livestock, and infrastructure teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with crop production tasks, including planting, cultivating, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
- Support general farm maintenance, including irrigation setup, fencing repairs, tool care, and infrastructure upkeep.
- Safely operate basic farm equipment and hand tools, following all safety protocols.
- Participate in soil preparation, composting, mulching, and other regenerative farming practices.
- Assist in packing and preparing produce for distributions, farmers’ markets, retail stores, and wholesale accounts.
- Work collaboratively with Vegetable Leads and fellow farm staff to maintain efficient daily operations.
- Support on-farm events, workshops, and educational programming as needed.
- Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and adhere to food safety and farm and GAP safety protocols.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Prior farming experience and/or outdoor labor experience required.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, rain, and cold.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, punctuality, and ability to stay focused during field tasks.
- Positive attitude and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Enthusiasm for sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
- Willingness to learn, take instruction, and adapt to evolving farm priorities.
Schedule & Work Environment:
- Up to 40 hours per week, with early mornings required depending on the season.
- Work is conducted primarily outdoors with exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
- Rotating Weekends: at least one weekend per month required.
- Additional weekend or early-morning hours may be needed during peak harvest periods or special farm events.
