FamilyCare Health Centers continues to grow and this is an exciting time to be part of our team! Our PrescriptionCare Pharmacy is expanding and we have a need for a talented Pharmacy Technician.

Work Location: PrescriptionCare Pharmacy - St. Albans

Qualifications: Individuals must have a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate Issued by Board of Education. Individual must have completed an approved pharmacy technician training program and National Certification (PTCB or ExCPT) or equivalent West Virginia Board of Pharmacy Technician License in good standing. Individual may not be on the government exclusion lists as determined by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and System for Award Management (SAM).

Basic Function: The pharmacy technician will expedite the processing of prescriptions and help maintain the non-prescription aspect of the pharmacy department. Primary duties involve the preparatory functions that need to be accomplished in order for the pharmacist to fill the prescription and customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. All functions or duties of the registered pharmacy technician shall be performed under the direct supervision of the pharmacist on duty. The pharmacist on duty will be working in close proximity with the registered pharmacy technician to ensure adequate control or supervision and shall verify and document registered pharmacy technician work.
  2. Expedite the processing of prescriptions by performing all duties necessary and allowable, by policy or law, in the preparation necessary prior to the filling of the prescription by the pharmacist and in the distribution of the prescription to the patient, once all necessary dispensing duties are performed by the pharmacist.
  3. Process all filing and record keeping functions as deemed necessary by the pharmacy manager.
  4. Communicate with the pharmacy manager on progress and policies of pharmacy department
  5. While on duty, wears appropriate name and position identification, indicating self as a registered pharmacy technician
  6. Carry out daily housekeeping, cleanliness and sanitation programs as established within company guidelines
  7. Listed below are duties to be performed by the registered pharmacy technician
    1. The pharmacy technician shall receive new prescriptions from the customers at the pharmacy for filling. When receiving a new prescription from the customer, the pharmacy technician shall verify the name, address, and birth date of the person for whom the prescription is to be filled. The pharmacy technician shall also verify the prescriber’s name (if illegible).
    2. The pharmacy technician shall obtain from the customer the drug name or Rx number of the prescription(s) that needs to be refilled
    3. The pharmacy technician shall enter the appropriate information into the computer in order to generate labels for the new or refilled prescriptions
    4. The pharmacy technician shall retrieve appropriate medication(s) from stock
    5. The pharmacy technician shall count tablets/capsules or pour liquids in appropriate quantities
    6. The pharmacy technician shall place medications in appropriate container(s) and affix prescription labels
    7. The pharmacy technician shall affix appropriate auxiliary labels
    8. The pharmacy technician shall assist the pharmacist in preparing and reconstituting medications
    9. The pharmacy technician shall answer the telephone and direct calls to the pharmacist (where appropriate).
    10. The pharmacy technician shall enter the appropriate information into the computer in order to process electronic third party claims for payment by insurance companies for prescriptions.
    11. The pharmacy technician shall accommodate the customers when they arrive at the pharmacy to pick up their prescriptions. This shall entail giving the prescription to the customer, as well as the necessary cash register transaction for both new and refill prescriptions.
  1. The pharmacy technician shall also be involved in the following functions that are not directly related to the actual filling of prescriptions:
    1. Completion and processing of third-party documents
    2. Organization and filing of new prescriptions
    3. Restocking and reordering supplies when necessary. Supplies may include vials, bags, printer labels and paper.
    4. Manage inventory as follows: Receive drug order from wholesaler. sticker items and restock shelves, determine that ordered items were shipped, determine that shipped items are the same as the invoiced items, and report shorts to wholesalers for credit and backordered items to pharmacist
    5. Clean pharmacy shelves and work areas and maintain pharmacy in a satisfactory state of cleanliness
    6. Check inventory for appropriate “shelf life” remaining before expiration, pull expired or nearly expired items, catalog expired items, and return items to appropriate company for credit
    7. Assist the pharmacist by reordering items and ordering new items as needed and backordered items. Communicate with the pharmacist and /or customer about item availability, when necessary.
    8. Communication via telephone with support companies, including but not limited to, third party insurance companies, wholesale companies, staffing and pharmacy consultant companies, and software and hardware vendors
  1. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
