Job Title: Preschool Teachers
Reports to: YMCA Children’s Center Director
FLSA: Full time, hourly
Schedule: Monday – Friday 9:00am - 6:00pm
Position Summary
The teaching position is an important piece to our overall team. The YMCA Early Learning Center believes that team teaching leads to our ability to offer a learning environment that will help each child grow and develop at his or her own rate with the end goal of being ready and successful in Kindergarten. Teaching aides will help with lesson planning, over all classroom organization, and conducting assessments on children in our program.
Responsibilities
· Ensure that each lesson plan includes appropriate activities in music, math, science, and literacy.
· The classroom is organized to support learning and encourage children to work independently with peers in self-selected activities
o Furnishings and materials are changed to maintain interest and encourage new learning
o Interest areas are attractive, available as a choice daily and supplied with an adequate amount of developmentally appropriate materials.
· Models and teaches the Y’s values. Ensures a high level of service with a commitment to changing lives
· Maintain daily open communication with parents
· Maintain a safe, healthy and clean environment
· Maintain assessments and documentation on each child
· Large and small group activities are planned to address the individual strengths, needs and interests of children
· The teacher uses both child-initiated and teacher planned experiences to effectively guide children’s language and literacy learning.
· Maintain Confidentiality
· Maintains regular and punctual attendance
Requirements
- High school Graduate, some college a plus
- Meet all applicable licensing regulations
- ECE level 1 completion – first 60 days
- Must clear a DCFS background check
- Certifications: CPR/AED, Emergency Procedures and First Aid (provided by YMCA)
- Excellent interpersonal and problem solving and decision making skills
- Ensure that children are supervised in a positive, respectful manner at all times
