Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Housing Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in assisting clients with housing needs, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and providing exceptional support through crisis intervention and social work techniques. The Housing Specialist will utilize their expertise in property management, landlord-tenant law, and Fair Housing regulations to guide clients effectively through various housing options, including Section 8 and LIHTC programs.
Duties
- Assist clients in applying for and maintaining housing assistance programs
- Conduct outreach and engagement with clients experiencing housing crises, providing crisis intervention and crisis management support.
- Educate clients on landlord-tenant law, Fair Housing regulations, and their rights and responsibilities.
- Negotiate lease agreements and resolve disputes between tenants and landlords.
- Manage client records per HUD guidelines
- Provide referrals for addiction counseling support when necessary, integrating motivational interviewing techniques to promote housing stability.
- Collaborate with landlords, property managers, social service agencies, and community organizations to facilitate housing placements.
- Conduct assessments related to social work needs and develop individualized plans for housing stability.
- Stay informed on current policies regarding Section 8, Fair Housing laws, and other relevant regulations to ensure compliance.
- Support clients through the entire housing process, from application to move-in and ongoing tenancy management.
Experience
- Prior experience in social work, property management, or related fields is preferred.
- Knowledge of LIHTC, Section 8, landlord-tenant law, Fair Housing regulations, and crisis intervention strategies is highly desirable.
- Experience with property management guidelines from HUD
- Strong negotiation skills combined with the ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism.
- Familiarity with addiction counseling or mental health support techniques is beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate clients through motivational interviewing techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to manage crises effectively while maintaining a compassionate approach.
