Founded in 2016 and based in Lawrence, MA, Uncommon Threads is an innovative, empowerment-driven nonprofit dedicated to helping low-income women rebuild confidence, self-esteem, and hope — through the transformative power of clothing, personal styling, peer support, and self-esteem workshops. The Opportunity
Uncommon Threads is hiring a Program Director to help lead and shape the next chapter of our organization’s growth and impact.
This role is ideal for a mission-driven leader who thrives in community-centered environments and is energized by building partnerships, guiding teams, and advancing programs that empower women.
As Program Director, you will work closely with the Founder to drive strategic planning, strengthen community relationships, lead staff and volunteers, and ensure the continued excellence and growth of our programs.
What You'll Do
Strategic Leadership & Community Engagement
- Partner with the Founder to define and execute a clear, ambitious strategic vision for short- and long-term organizational growth
- Lead, inspire, and support staff and volunteers to deliver on Uncommon Threads' mission every day
- Cultivate and strengthen relationships with community agencies, key stakeholders, and partner organizations across the region
- Nurture a highly engaged Advisory Council, co-leading meetings with the Council Chair and leveraging members' collective networks and expertise to advance the mission
- Represent Uncommon Threads at community events, public speaking engagements, and partnership meetings to elevate visibility and deepen community ties
- Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence through consistent evaluation, quality programming, and continuous improvement
Development & Fundraising
- Identify, pursue, and secure diverse funding streams including grants, corporate partnerships, individual donations, and unrestricted funds
- Build and steward meaningful relationships with major donors, funders, and in-kind partners
- Oversee accurate and timely grant reporting and maintain donor data integrity within Bloomerang
- Co-develop and implement donor outreach strategies to attract new supporters and retain existing ones
- Provide strategic oversight of Uncommon Closet, our social enterprise, in collaboration with the Store Manager
Marketing & Communications
- Lead content creation and distribution for e-newsletters, press releases, and public communications that amplify Uncommon Threads' story and impact
- Pitch media opportunities and grow public awareness of our mission and programs
- Collaborate with the Uncommon Closet Store Manager on marketing strategies that drive sales and community engagement
- Financial, Operational & Staff Management
- Oversee day-to-day financial management in compliance with Family Services of the Merrimack Valley (FSMV) policies, including budget monitoring and internal controls
- Supervise and invest in staff through performance management, goal setting, and meaningful professional development
- Build and maintain systems to measure program effectiveness, track impact, and drive continuous improvement in service delivery
Financial, Operational & Staff Management

Who You Are
- You are a natural leader who leads with both heart and strategy. You are energized by mission-driven work, comfortable wearing multiple hats, and deeply committed to the communities you serve. You bring:
- A Bachelor's degree (required); a Master's in Nonprofit Management, Social Work, or Business is a plus
- At least 3 years of experience in nonprofit or program management; equivalent lived and professional experience will be considered
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience with staff and volunteers
- A background in fundraising and development
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English
- Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred but not required
- Cultural competence and experience working with diverse populations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, and donor management systems; experience with Bloomerang and WIX or the ability to learn
Why Uncommon Threads
- Annual salary between $70,000-$74,000 (commensurate on experience)
- Full-time, Exempt Position (40 hours per week)
