Family Promise Winchester Area is a faith-based nonprofit affiliate of Family Promise, the leading national organization dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness for families with children, with over 200 affiliates throughout the country.

Position Overview

Our Case Manager will be an organized, compassionate, and motivated teammate who thrives in a fast-paced enivornment and helps families quickly transition from homelessness to permanent housing. The Case Manager will assist families in reaching goals they set for themselves, including increasing earning potential, finding affordable housing, etc.

Office location: Winchester, Virginia. Travel may be required to all jurisdictions that we serve, including Winchester, along with the counties of Frederick, Warren, and Clarke.

Responsibilities:

· Receive referrals from various sources and promptly follow up with families.

· Conduct interviews and intakes with the families.

· Working from an asset-based, trauma-informed, housing-first approach, assist families to secure housing and work through any barriers as needed.

o The goal is to help families stay stably housed.

o Work with other Case Managers to deliver resources, referrals, and workshops as needed related to employment, financial literacy and budgeting, housing plans, and educational planning. Utilize organization’s resources and partnerships.

· Ensure families are ready for housing: help with debt repair, ensure families can get utilities turned on, plan for furniture, etc.

· Work alongside families to secure housing by partnering with landlords and supporting families in preparing for a successful move.

· Develop relationships with partner organizations and maintain a database of resources for families.

· Serve as an advocate for families with community service agencies.

· Equip families with tools and resources to manage crises effectively.

· Conduct regular meetings with families.

o These visits may be at a family’s home.

o Must communicate with families in a mutually convenient fashion.

· Additional responsibilities as needed.

Administrative Responsibilities:

· Work with and/or supervise volunteers and interns as needed.

· Document all case management activities and services provided using Family Link software and any other required documentation platforms.

· Maintain case file records for every family served across all core programs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Job requires some flexibility and may involve a weekend/night to meet with families.
  • Must have valid driver’s license (reimbursed for mileage).
  • May assist at fundraisers and special events.
  • Some lifting of materials / donations and help moving families into their homes is required.

Education, Experience and Skills:

· The successful candidate is enthusiastic, positive and can display good judgment. They must be able to take initiative and help families achieve outcomes.

· Must have a sense of urgency, creativity and a figure-it-out attitude.

  • Four-year degree (BSW, psychology, or related degree) preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience related to employment placement, housing/shelter, and/or family services preferred.

· Expected case management skills include trauma-informed care, housing-first, and a strength-based approach.

  • Must be detail oriented, able to prioritize and self-manage.
  • Must be proficient in computer programs and demonstrated record of tracking outcomes, recording case notes.
  • Must exhibit comfort working with various constituents: families, faith community volunteers, corporate and foundation partners, etc.

Salary and Benefits:

· Salary of $19-$21 per hour, commensurate with experience.

· Paid time off in accordance with the personnel policy.

Work Environment, Schedule & Managing Success:

· This is a full-time position.

· This position requires both in-office and field work.

· The Case Manager reports to the Executive Director.

· Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds is necessary.

· Our affiliate’s success is measured by outcomes: rate to permanent housing (75%), retaining housing (80%), and maintaining a caseload of about 20-30 families.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
