Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team. As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting our veterinarians in providing high-quality care to our animal patients. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare, excellent communication skills, ability to multitask, high attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Position: Veterinary Technician
Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians in routine examinations, surgeries, and medical procedures.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Perform laboratory tests such as bloodwork, urinalysis, cytology and fecal analysis.
- Prepare patients for surgery, including pre-operative procedures and post-operative care.
- Monitor patients under anesthesia and during recovery.
- Maintain accurate medical records and update patient information in electronic health records systems.
- Educate clients on pet care, medication administration, and treatment plans.
- Handle and restrain animals during examinations and procedures with care and compassion.
- Assist with diagnostic imaging such as X-rays and ultrasounds.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, treatment areas, the clinic and surgical suite.
- Help with inventory management and ordering of medical supplies.
- Provide support and assistance to veterinary staff as needed.
Requirements:
- Licensed in the state of Iowa
- Certification as a Registered Veterinary Technician
- Experience not required (will train a recent Graduate) Associate degree in Veterinary Technology.
- Strong understanding of animal behavior, health, and anatomy.
- Excellent communication skills with both clients and team members.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Compassionate and gentle handling of animals.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills and willingness to learn veterinary software systems.
- Flexibility to work weekends.
- Physical ability to lift and restrain animals of various sizes and species.
- Commitment to continuing education and professional development in the field of veterinary medicine.
- Responsible, punctual, respectful, detail oriented, team player, self-starter
- Ability to arrive between 7:30 and 7:45 am
- Ability to work 2 Saturdays a month
