About us:
Family Futures’ mission is to shape a community in which all children are supported to reach their full potential. We help children ages 0 through 5 by supporting parents, providing connections to resources and programs, and offering ways to monitor and enhance early childhood development. While our primary focus is families in Kent County, we have programs that reach further into the greater West Michigan community.

 

We are currently seeking a Family Support Specialist to join our team and help us further our mission of supporting children and families through the Healthy Families Kent County program, promoting positive parent-child relationships and early childhood development.

 

What to expect:

The Family Support Specialist for Healthy Families Kent County is responsible for providing in-home visits to support parent-child relationships, child development, and family well-being. This position will conduct screenings, offer referrals, maintain confidentiality, and ensure compliance with program standards, while also engaging in professional development and adhering to safety regulations.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Assists individuals and families in achieving positive outcomes based on care plans and program requirements.
  • Promotes healthy, nurturing parent-child relationships and supports child healthcare needs.
  • Screens for child development and provide referrals to community resources.
  • Maintains ethical behavior, confidentiality, and customer service with internal and external clients.
  • Meets established program standards for productivity and service delivery.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity, integrates cultural competencies, and engages in ongoing cultural development.
  • Ensures documentation meets organization and program standards for quality and timeliness.
  • Fosters teamwork, accountability, and positive communication with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Adheres to safety regulations, completes required training, and follows transportation laws when transporting families.

 

Skills and experiences you’ll bring to the table:   

The Family Support Specialist must have 2 years of current and progressive experience working with children and families, a valid driver’s license per program specifications, physical and psychological ability to complete the job. Candidates must be able to work a non-traditional schedule based upon program requirements. 

 

  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations
  • Ability to document work clearly and concisely, and in a timely manner
  • Working knowledge of community systems, private health care systems, collateral agencies
  • Knowledge of child development, attachment relationships, and age-appropriate activities
  • Knowledge of developmental screening tools
  • Knowledge of health care needs of young children
  • Ability to do person/family centered planning
  • Knowledge about recipient’s rights and HIPAA compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of code of ethics and a history of ethical behavior
  • Ability to work independently within a team structure
  • Ability to work in a community-based setting
  • Knowledge regarding program specific expectations

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field from an accredited college or university.
