What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classroom Aide position at Family Enrichment Network, Inc.?
The Classroom Aide works with the classroom team to carryout the Individual Education Plans of Head Start preschool age children and is responsible for food production, washing dishes/cookware, and routine clean-up tasks.
Responsibilities include:
- Communicates with children in a positive manner, providing a supportive social and emotional climate using Conscious Discipline techniques.
- Takes time to listen to children and is sensitive to their needs.
- Uses guidance and redirection to help children deal with anger and challenging behaviors.
- Models developmentally appropriate practices.
- Assists in carrying-out individual or small group activities with children. Assists with administering developmental screenings upon request.
- Fosters open and cooperative relationships with parents and makes them feel comfortable and welcome in the classroom.
- Assists in the implementation and adheres to Head Start Performance Standards, specifically 1304.
- Assists in the preparation of classroom materials and supplies for daily use.
- Contributes to the development of weekly lesson plans.
- Helps to maintain a developmentally appropriate, safe, and inviting environment for children.
- Takes direction from Head Teacher regarding educational and classroom management philosophy, prioritizing of tasks, and most-effective use of hours when class is not in session.
- Works with Head Teacher, Assistant Teacher, interns, and volunteers as a team member.
- Adheres to Head Start philosophy. Carries out goals, guidelines, and objectives.
- Reads information in early childhood education and special education and seeks staff resources for support and clarification.
- Works within a team to conduct a comprehensive child development program.
- Participates in all sites event including family literacy nights.
- Assists with creating and maintaining a classroom environment that meets the developmental needs of children and encourages their independence.
- Maintains accurate, confidential, and prompt anecdotal documentation in Teaching Strategies Gold and assists in the creation of individual child portfolios.
- Shares information about children's developmental needs, problems, and progress with the teaching team.
- Keeps all information about child and family confidential.
- Participates in case conferences and weekly team meetings.
- Assists in the care and inventory of classroom equipment.
- Maintains a professional and positive attitude and promote positive staff morale.
- Participates in workshops, in-service training, and relevant training and shares information.
- Uses feedback from CLASS observations to improve classroom environment and helps develop an action plan when needed
