Part-Time; Non-Exempt
Compensation: $13.00-$14.00/hourly depending on education level
Work Hours: 20-25 hours/week; afternoons 12:30-5:30pm
Location: 300 S St Louis Blvd, Suite 100, South Bend, IN 46617
Immediate Supervisor: Brain Train Program Manager
Education Requirement: Associate's Degree Preferred

Must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Proficient in Spanish.

JOB OBJECTIVE
To provide services within The Brain Train to adult and child clients in keeping with Family & Children’s Center mission of building strong families and healthy children. The Brain Train provides families with the knowledge and skills to enhance their infant or young child’s healthy growth and development through play.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide assessment, goal planning, short-term supportive services, referral/linkage for families eligible for The Brain Train development program.
  • Plan and conduct play sessions with families participating in The Brain Train, mentor and educate interns on appropriate developmental activities and information.
  • Plan and facilitate parent group activities.
  • Provide short-term case management functions and perform collateral tasks as needed.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date referrals, screening tools, and other required documentation.
  • Attend specific community committee meetings of partnering agencies.
  • Stay up-to-date on programs, agencies, and businesses available to The Brain Train client families.
  • Evaluate client/family needs and refer to appropriate early childhood programs such as Healthy Families and external community partners.
  • Stay knowledgeable of and up-to-date with community resources.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
  • Arrange physical environment for individual and group sessions: move chairs, tables, prepare coffee, materials.
  • Reach out to families to secure appointments via telephone, email, and letters.
  • Provide consultation to other Family & Children's Center, Inc. staff relative to infant growth and learning, play therapy, and early childhood development.
  • Attend staff meetings, individual and group supervision, and community meetings as required.
  • Attend all required trainings and staff development sessions pertinent to The Brain Train and the position.
  • Other duties as assigned by The Brain Train Program Manager.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Crisis intervention, assessment and evaluation, and treatment planning skills.
  • Group facilitation skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft office, Excel, and basis database management systems.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, initiative, creativity, and flexibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse racial/cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with staff.
  • Ability to abide by strict code of confidentiality according to legal and professional standards.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of sensitivity and responsiveness to client needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Bilingual abilities are a plus.
  • Willingness to carry out program goals, agency policies, and advance the overall mission.



QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Minimum 2 years of college or Bachelor of Arts/Science in Human Services, Child Development, Education, or related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum 2 years working with families in a supervised setting is preferred. Knowledge of infant and child development., which may be obtained through formal or informal education; volunteer, internship or life experiences, is preferred.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS: Must be physically and mentally able to perform essential functions, possess sufficient physical strength and energies required to effectively engage in activities with children and to support the physical environment. Assessment of children may involve bending, kneeling, and play activities on the floor. Reliable transportation is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office environment.
