Service Advisor / Front Desk - $19-$23/hr + Performance Pay at 90 Days

Family Automotive Center has been fixing cars and taking care of drivers in

Port Jefferson Station since 2011. We're a family-owned repair shop and used

car dealership on Route 112 - four technicians, a busy service counter, and

customers who've been coming to us for years.

We've grown a lot this year. We're looking for someone at the front counter

who can sell.

WHAT THAT ACTUALLY MEANS HERE

Most of the money this shop leaves on the table walks out over the phone.

Somebody calls asking what brakes cost, gets a number, says thanks, and hangs

up. Somebody gets an estimate for four items, approves one, and nobody ever

follows up on the other three. Somebody says "not today, maybe next month,"

and next month nobody calls.

That's the job. Not order-taking. Turning those calls into booked

appointments, and turning declined estimates into approved work.

You'll also do the front desk work that goes with it - answering the phones,

booking the schedule, greeting customers at drop-off and pick-up, calling

people back with updates on their vehicles, handling the occasional extended

warranty claim, and keeping the paperwork straight.

Let's be straight about two things.

First, the pace. Our phones are busy. You will often have someone on hold

while you're finishing another call, and a customer standing at the counter

while both lines ring. If that sounds stressful, this isn't the job. If you

get sharper when it's busy, you'll like it here.

Second, this is not a job where you only do the fun part. Selling here is

mostly follow-up, and follow-up is unglamorous. It means keeping a list of

every customer who said no, remembering to call them, and calling a second

and third time without being a pest. Nobody claps for it and it's where the

money is. If you want to close and hand the list to somebody else, we're not

a fit.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You don't need automotive experience. We'll teach you the car side.

We do want somebody who has carried a number before. Phone sales,

appointment setting, inside sales, a commission retail floor, hospitality

upselling, collections, or the front desk at a busy service business - if

you've ever been measured on conversions, bookings, or dollars, and you

liked being measured, we want to talk to you.

What we can't teach: being reliable, staying organized when three things

happen at once, and being genuinely pleasant with people who are stressed

because their car broke.

Pushy doesn't work here. Our customers have been coming for years and we

intend to keep them. The best people at this job sell by being trusted, not

by being aggressive.

WHAT WE OFFER

[SET PAY] $[19]-$[23] per hour to start, depending on experience.

Here's how the pay works, and we'll be straight with you about it. Your

first 90 days are flat hourly while you learn the shop, our customers, and

our phones. At 90 days you go onto a performance pay plan on top of your

hourly - a percentage of the profit on the work you sell - and it steps up

again at a year.

This is not a capped role. If you're the person who turns the phone into

booked appointments and gets declined work approved, you'll earn more here

than you would at a flat wage - and this seat leads into full service

advising. We'd much rather promote from this counter than hire from outside.

A set weekday schedule with no nights and no Sundays. A small team where

you'll actually know everyone. Real training.

Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Occasional Saturday coverage, 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM
