Job Summary

The Electrical Controls & Hydraulic Technician is a multi-skilled technical role responsible for building, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and supporting industrial automation and hydraulic systems in both factory and field environments. This position supports customers, field service technicians, and internal engineering teams while ensuring systems meet performance, safety, and quality standards. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with electrical controls, PLCs, hydraulic systems, and industrial machinery, and is willing to travel extensively and work flexible hours as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Electrical & Controls Responsibilities

  • Install, wire, and troubleshoot automated industrial machines.
  • Design, build, and troubleshoot electrical control panels in compliance with NEC and NFPA standards.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
  • Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and industrial control systems using ladder logic and other programming methods.
  • Configure and troubleshoot communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP and Modbus.
  • Support motor control systems including VFDs, motor starters, relays, transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and sensors.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools including multi-meters to troubleshoot AC/DC electrical systems.
  • Assist customers and field service technicians with machine troubleshooting, modem/VPN connectivity, and technical support.

Hydraulic & Mechanical Responsibilities

  • Build, test, calibrate, and troubleshoot hydraulic systems to meet pressure, flow, and performance specifications.
  • Read and interpret hydraulic schematics and technical drawings.
  • Assemble hoses, fittings, and hydraulic lines using proper procedures.
  • Perform system pressure checks, flushing, and leak testing.
  • Ensure all hydraulic components meet quality and dimensional standards.

General & Support Responsibilities

  • Support in-factory engineering, quality, and production teams.
  • Provide technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, schematics, and operating procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and industry regulations.
  • Travel extensively to customer sites and support installations, commissioning, and service work.
  • Work overtime, weekends, and nights as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience working with hydraulic systems required.
  • Experience with industrial electrical controls and automation systems required.
  • Working knowledge of PLC ladder logic required.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation software preferred (RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, RSView 32, PanelBuilder, FactoryTalk).
  • Familiarity with NEC standards for control panels and field wiring.
  • Prior knowledge of basic hydraulics required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical theory.
  • Ability to fully utilize a multi-meter and other diagnostic tools.
  • Working experience with control wiring, sensors, motors, VFDs, relays, terminal blocks, and transformers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools including drills, screw guns, reciprocating saws, and fish tape.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced technical environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Machining and or Drafting experience is a plus

Physical Demands

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Ability to use hands for handling tools and components.
  • Vision requirements include close vision and peripheral vision.

Work Environment

  • Work environments range from cold/dry to hot/humid.
  • Indoor manufacturing plant and outdoor job sites.
  • Noisy environments with possible flashing lights, strong odors, and industrial equipment.

Schedule

  • 8-hour or 10-hour shifts
  • Day shift

Pay: $28.00 - $34.00 per hour
