The Senior Show Set Design is an in-office role that will be focused on team leadership, design, and coordination of scenic elements and spaces for various immersive entertainment projects. This includes a variety of immersive spaces and experiences including guest interactives, themed features, attractions, show sets, props, queues, F&B, retail, and common guest areas. A successful Senior Show Set Designer demonstrates the skills and experience to craft the visual realization of a story as directed by the project Creative Director. 

Senior Show Set Designers will work with the Creative Director, Art Director, Attraction Designers, and Show Set Team to develop conceptual designs then further develop those concepts into industry standard scenic drawings and models. The Senior Show Set Designer will be responsible for coordinating and integrating equipment and requirements from other disciplines including technical and operational requirements, structural, facility and engineering, plumbing, HVAC, media, lighting, A/V, special effects, props, scenic elements, animated figures, etc. The Senior Show Set Designer will be expected to anticipate the needs and requirements of related disciplines, and initiate coordination meetings as needed The Senior Show Set Designer will be able to develop and understand POV and sightline studies, and to develop studies proactively. A general working knowledge of themed fabrication and installation methods is preferred, and a willingness to learn is required.  

Senior Show Set Designers will be expected to present designs both internally and externally, and raise questions and concerns with appropriate parties as appropriate. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Ability to hand sketch concepts, and fully design elevations, plans and details via 2D/3D software.  (Professional illustration skills not required)
  • Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking, has problem-solving skills, and can pay close attention to detail.
  • Other deliverables may include creating white models, 3D Renders, Material Boards, mood boards, storyboarding or quick spatial illustrations. 
  • Designers will be able to research and provide scenic finish applications, and thematic materials, in addition to providing innovative design solutions.
  • Exhibits daily discipline and time management skills towards meeting deadlines.
  • Assist senior creative staff in managing the Show Set Team workload, answering questions of fellow designers and management staff, and keeping track of file management both internally and externally.
  • Have a strong understanding and awareness of guest throughput, guest capacities, queuing etc.   
  • Senior Show Set Designers are expected to learn and implement basic understanding of building and fire safety codes. These will vary from project to project and can be discussed with project Facility Design staff/vendor.
  • Collaborate with Architect and Interior designers to create functionally safe spaces that meet program requirements, space allocation, operations, and functionality. As well as the integration of fixtures, furniture and equipment into the designs as needed.
  • Senior Show Set Designers are required to learn and implement strict safety requirements in their designs. Falcons Creative Group puts guest safety above all else and works to address any and all safety issues in the design phase.
  • Participate in design charrettes, IP/client reviews and presentations, VE/reductions, scheduling, picking up redlines/design review sessions, and collaborating directly with vendors or other disciplines as needed 
  • Senior Show Set Design positions are non-routine and candidates should be able to adapt to changes and direction quickly and may be provided with opportunities to work on a myriad of projects. Candidates enjoy working in a studio team environment and are able toeffectively and openly communicate with others. 
  • Ability to provide mathematical figures, area calculations, linear feet, percentages, ratios, or other calculations as needed. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Job Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Must have or be able to quickly acquire knowledge of company structure (mission, goals, and objectives), and policies and procedures.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or Master’s degree in Art, Design, Themed Entertainment, Theater, or Interior Design. A combination of experience and education will also be considered.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of professional experience in theme park development, theatrical design and production, and or hospitality related design. *Theme Park development and design package experience preferred.  
  • Strong portfolio of theme-park, or theatrical work required.
  • Required software knowledge includes strong proficiency in Rhino, AutoCAD, Photoshop, and MS Suite. Basic knowledge of Revit also required. A working knowledge of Illustrator, InDesign, 3DsMax, SketchUp, Unreal Engine and 3D modeling in general is a plus.  

This at-will, in-office position is being hired to support a specific client project. While this role is a full-time position with Falcon's Creative Group, employment will not extend beyond the duration of the project. The assignment will conclude once the project is completed, at which time employment with Falcon's Creative Group will end. The expected project timeline is to be determined. For avoidance of doubt, employment with Falcon’s would be at-will at all times, meaning that the employee or Falcon’s may terminate the employment at any time (including prior to the conclusion of the project).
