A Hydrovac Operator safely drives and operates specialized high-pressure water and vacuum excavation trucks to expose underground utilities, perform potholing, and trenching without damage to infrastructure. Core Responsibilities & Duties
- Safe Excavation: Operate hydrovac systems to perform daylighting, potholing, trenching, and debris removal.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform pre-trip/post-trip inspections, troubleshoot, and maintain high-pressure water and vacuum systems.
- Site Safety: Establish a safe work area, identify hidden utilities, and adhere to OSHA safety standards.
- Documentation & Compliance: Complete daily logs, waste disposal documentation, and comply with DOT regulations.
- Utility Protection: Use non-destructive, precision digging methods to prevent damage to electrical, gas, or water lines.
Requirements & Skills
- License: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B.
- Experience: Previous experience in hydro excavation, heavy equipment operation, or vacuum truck operation is generally required.
- Safety Certifications: OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, and fall protection certifications are often required.
- Physical Demands: Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions; lift/carry typical field loads (often up to 50 lbs) and perform physically demanding tasks.
