Day Habilitation Driver

Position Summary

The Day Habilitation Driver is responsible for safely transporting individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to and from the Day Habilitation program, community outings, and scheduled activities. The driver ensures reliable, timely, and compassionate service while maintaining the dignity, comfort, and safety of all passengers. This position plays an essential role in supporting individual independence and enhancing daily program experiences.

Key ResponsibilitiesTransportation & Safety

• Safely transport individuals to and from their homes, program site, and community activities.
• Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company transportation policies.
• Ensure all individuals are properly seated, secured, and assisted during entry and exit from the vehicle.
• Conduct daily vehicle safety checks, including fuel, tire pressure, lift operation (if applicable), seatbelts, and cleanliness.
• Immediately report any vehicle concerns, incidents, or unsafe conditions to the Transportation Coordinator or Program Director.

Individual Support & Professionalism

• Provide respectful assistance to individuals with varied mobility and behavioral needs.
• Maintain a calm, positive, and patient demeanor while interacting with individuals and families.
• Communicate any changes, concerns, or notable behaviors observed during transportation.
• Uphold confidentiality following HIPAA and DDD guidelines.

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete daily transportation logs, mileage sheets, and attendance records accurately.
• Follow assigned pick-up/drop-off schedules and communicate delays promptly.
• Use the A1U transportation app (if applicable) to document routes, attendance, and transportation notes.
• Assist in emergency preparedness procedures (evacuation, first aid, incident reporting).

Vehicle Care & Organization

• Keep vehicle clean, organized, and presentable at all times.
• Ensure proper maintenance scheduling (oil change, inspection, repairs).
• Maintain all required equipment (first aid kit, emergency contact list, wheelchair restraints).

Requirements

• Valid New Jersey Driver’s License with clean driving record.
• Experience working with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities preferred.
• Ability to lift and support individuals with mobility challenges (with proper training).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow structured schedules and adhere to safety protocols.
• Must pass background checks, drug screening, TB test, and physical (as required by DDD).
• Basic English communication skills (spoken and written).

Preferred Qualifications

• CNA, DSP, or caregiver experience (not required but a plus).
• Familiarity with Day Habilitation or DDD services.
• Experience using mobile applications for transportation or attendance logging.
