Addiction Counselor

MISSION STATEMENT: Fairview Recovery Services provides a therapeutic environment that assists individuals with substance use disorder with living independent, healthy, and productive lives by providing a continuum of individualized care and services through patient centered treatment planning by our dedicated staff.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE POSITION: The work involves responsibility for counseling and offering guidance to a variety of clients in a clinical or residential setting. Duties are performed as a part of an interdisciplinary team. Work is performed under direct supervision of the Program Director with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in individual cases. Work is reviewed through clinical supervision and review of records. The Counselors performs related work as required.

Sign on bonus of $3,000 for qualified candidates when hired. Sign on bonus will be paid in increments of $750 at 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, and 18 months.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)

Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team in program planning, evaluation of client needs, and treatment planning and implementation of direct services;

Participate in the planning and implementation of educational, vocational and clinical treatment training programs: act as a consultant to client, facilitate treatment groups, and makes referrals, as appropriate, to schools, social service agencies, health-related organizations, probation personnel, and other groups and agencies;

Counsel clients on addiction and recovery issues, living skills, the use of social and recreational outlets, and educational and vocational opportunities;

Prepare and maintain required reports, case records, progress reports and similar documentation.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

1) Working knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques used in group and individual counseling.

2) Working knowledge of human behavior, socio-economic problems and development.

3) Ability to recognize psychiatric symptomatology and to participate in formulating effective treatment plans.

4) Ability to establish, maintain and terminate a counseling relationship.

5)Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

6) Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

7) Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

8) Displays good judgment and tact.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field and on track to obtain a CASAC or other QHP status within 2yrs;

B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college with an Associate’s degree and Training Certificate in Chemical Dependency Counseling, and (1) year experience of direct client care in a chemical dependency treatment setting with an emphasis on case management, and on track to obtain a CASAC or other QHP status within 2yrs A supervised internship in a chemical dependency setting is equivalent to one year of employment experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with less than three (3) points and a good driving record .

*Must be willing to work a rotating on-call schedule, and rotating weekends, and holidays .

Pay: $19.50 - $24.00 per hour
