About this Unit: The Blood and Marrow Transplant Program (BMT) at University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital is among the best in the world. We were the first institution to successfully complete a bone marrow transplant– back in 1968. And since then, we have continued to lead the world in providing excellent, compassionate BMT care to children and adolescents. University of Minnesota Health’s renowned BMT Program brings together the most respected research and clinical leaders in blood and marrow transplantation. We’re the site of innovative treatments, research studies and clinical trials with our trailblazing researchers investigating new frontiers in stem cell therapy and immunotherapy. The Pediatric BMT & Heme/Onc Unit (Unit 4) provides care to pediatric hematology/oncology, GI patients and their families. We have 24 beds on the unit. We work together with the entire interdisciplinary team (MDs, NPs, NSTs, OT/PT, Speech, SW, etc) to deliver quality care. Patient assignment varies based on acuity, Med/Surg or IMC. Located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, we deliver a broad range of pediatric programs from surgery, imaging and neonatal and pediatric intensive care to cardiac and oncology (cancer care) services and blood and marrow and organ transplantation. Our patient population includes BMT, Heme/Oncology, and GI services. 

 

Schedule: This position will be working 64 hours every two weeks with with flexible hours to offer access to all staff.

 

The Patient Care Supervisor (PCS) is responsible for assisting the Manager/Director with department operations. This includes supervision of personnel and projects as delegated, including but not limited to human resources management, nursing practice, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, finance and other operational accountabilities

Responsibilities

  • Partners with Manager/Director to supervise/lead day-to-day or shift-to-shift operations to ensure support of the mission, vision, values and goals of the organization. Assists to plan, manage, coordinate and evaluate patient care activities including staffing, resource management, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, and financial management.
  • Prioritizes assignments to assure timely, productive, and efficient use of resources. Assists NM to handle equipment inventory and supply management within the operational budget.
  • Collaborates with Nursing, Provider leadership, and other partners to implement and evaluate standards of practice. Collects and analyzes quality data and uses process improvement methodology to ensure delivery of safe and quality patient care.
  • Assists with department change and acts as a change agent in procedure and process changes. Demonstrates skills/abilities in the provision of patient care
  • Ensures unit protocols, benchmarks, and hospital procedures are initiated appropriately.
  • Assists Manager/Director to develop, implement, supervise and evaluate the quality improvement initiatives. Assists with human resources management to achieve quality service and positive employee relations.
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Advocates for patient, family and staff needs

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • 3 years pediatric nursing experience inpatient BMT or Heme/Onc
  • 1 year nursing experience of which in a formal or informal (charge, lead, preceptor, interim) leadership role
  • MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
  • Chemo Provider Course
  • Intermediate Vent/Trach Class

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.A./M.S. in nursing, health care administration, business administration or related field.
  • 5 years or more nursing experience
  • ANCC or AONL Certification

Compensation Disclaimer

The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. If your role is eligible for a sign-on bonus, the bonus program that is approved and in place at the time of offer, is what will be honored.
