What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Patient Access Specialist position at Fairview Health Services?
This position interacts closely with patients, families, providers and the multidisciplinary teams in a highly organized and professional manner. The Lead Patient Access Specialist ensures the exceptional patient experience is achieved by displaying effective customer service, problem solving and communication skills in a friendly, thoughtful empathetic manner. The Lead Patient Access Specialist is responsible for completing the registration process which includes scheduling and registration activities including insurance eligibility and point of service collections. Individuals in this role are expected to demonstrate behaviors that create a welcoming environment and must be able to articulate information in a manner that ensures patients and family members have clear expectations of their visit and understand their responsibilities. In addition to the above, the Lead is a contact and mentor for the team, answering questions, assisting with staffing and work assignments, on-call rotation, quality audits and more.
Schedule:
3:00 pm to 11:30 pm / Monday-FridayOn-call rotation every 4-5 weeks
Responsibilities
- Provide scheduling and registration support for patients.
- Provide interaction, wayfinding and screening to patients and visitors.
- Interact with patients and families in unusual and unexpected situations that may require de-escalation skills.
- Manage daily worklists and resolve assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
- Obtain and documentation of required consents and regulatory documents.
- Complete verification of insurance eligibility and benefits
- Support price transparency by explaining patient out of pocket expenses and collecting co-pay, deductible and/or co-insurance amounts.
- Complete financial screening
- Mentor and train new staff.
- Serve as first level support for peers.
- May assist leadership with work assignments and staffing.
- Complete quality audits
Required Qualifications
- 4 years in healthcare revenue cycle, health insurance, OR experience in an equivalent level 2 position.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform accurately and efficiently in EPIC, Microsoft Office Suite, and other computer programs.
- Demonstrate the ability to handle and de-escalate complex accounts, problem solve and use critical thinking.
- Demonstrate the ability of multi-tasking and time management.
- Patient collections experience in a medical setting.
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal), strong attention to detail, self-directed and a positive attitude are essential.
- Experience being the subject matter expert and demonstrated willingness to support team questions
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Post Secondary Education
- Previous Lead or Supervisory experience
