What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Care Technician Float - Clinic position at Fairview Health Services?
Fairview is looking for a Laboratory Care Technician to work at M Health Fairview Clinic - Riverside. This position would also be cross trained to work at M Health Fairview Clinic - Highland Park, M Health Fairview Clinic - Midway, M Health Fairview Clinic - New Brighton and M Health Fairview Clinic - Rice Street locations. Primary hours will be Monday-Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm. This position also includes one Saturday at Highland Park Urgent Care location every 5th weekend. Schedule is subject to change to meet staffing needs, including floating to other Central Clinics.
The Laboratory Care Technician – Clinics Float position supports the Flex Workforce. Flex Workforce employees regularly travel to multiple clinics to fill open shifts. “Regular” travel is defined as the expectation to be available to travel 100% at any time to different locations based on business needs. The length of assignment at a location will vary based on need and includes the expectation to travel to more than one clinic during the day at a moment’s notice.
This is a Flexible Workforce position and will receive a pay incentive in addition to the hourly rate of pay.
Responsibilities Job Description
Working with diverse populations within a healthcare environment, the LCT plays an important role in providing quality, proficient and professional services in keeping with Fairview Values as they interact with our patients, families and co-workers. The LCT performs laboratory specimen collection at various Fairview or outreach locations, as well as, provides for safe and secure specimen handling and point of care testing. Responsible for accurately entering orders and collection information into the Laboratory Information System and associated subsystems; monitoring computer logs for incomplete work; scheduling tests/procedures and providing results in LIS/HIS and over the phone, the LCT's attention to detail and accuracy are the foundation for our providing quality laboratory services. Working as an individual or team member, the LCT continuously works towards providing quality service improvement and optimum support to the department and team members in achieving Fairview's goals.
Qualifications
Required
- At least 18 years of age
- High School diploma/GED
- BLS certification within 90 days of hire
Education
- Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program OR-
- Completion of three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience OR-
- Enrollment in MLT or MLS program, including completion of a phlebotomy course.
Preferred
- Prior laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic setting in a similar capacity

- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Demonstrate manual dexterity.
- Demonstrates competence and proficient skills in collecting blood samples.
