Job Overview
Fairview is looking for a Genetics Counselor to join our team at our University of MN Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. The Genetics Counselor position is responsible for providing genetics counseling services to patients and families of Fairview. This position will be a float position helping to cover various locations throughout the Metro area.
Responsibilities
- Provide genetic counseling services across general genetics, specialty clinics, maternal fetal medicine, and oncology
- Coordinate patient activities for genetics department/clinics.
- Ensure all pertinent preliminary data has been received.
- Communicate data to appropriate staff.
- Triage patients, both referrals and follow-ups into appropriate clinics and services.
- Counsel patients and families seen at clinics.
- Obtain medical and family histories.
- Interpret genetic diagnosis.
- Assess and communicate the genetic and medical risks.
- Provide continuous supportive counseling services
- Provide genetic counseling service for families for whom molecular methods of diagnosis can offer carrier detection and prenatal diagnosis.
- Develop and provide educational services to health professionals and community groups.
- Develop educational materials regarding genetic disease for health professionals and the lay public.
- Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
Required Qualifications
- M.A./M.S. in Genetic Counseling
- Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Medical Genetics
- Must be licensed and credentialled within 6 months of hire. within 180 Days
Preferred Qualifications
- One to three years experience

The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions.
