Emergency Medical Technician - Clinic Support

Job Overview

This position is responsible for supporting patients, providers, and other care team members in the ambulatory environment. Duties include preparing patients for their appointment, collecting, and recording vital signs, gathering, and documenting pertinent information into the medical record; prepare, cleaning, and stock exam, procedure, and treatment rooms. Assist with managing and following-up on patient messages. This position is also responsible for responding to rapid response requests, utilizing EMT skillset within the MN and National EMS Scope of Practice Model.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for their appointment.
• Obtain and record vital signs
• Collect and accurately documents pertinent information in the health record.
• Assist providers with patient exams, treatments, and treatments.
• May perform administrative duties such as coordinating and monitoring patient appointments, in-basket management (phone messages, letters, etc.), telephonic/video patient communication.
• Provide patient instruction
• Serves as a communication liaison between the physician and patient.
• Maintains patient confidentiality.
• Delivers care as delegated by the physician/authorized practitioner or RN, to assigned patient population, or individual patient.
• Adheres to all relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Administers medication per the State of MN and National EMS Scope of Practice; AND with a signed order.
• Respond immediately to “Rapid Response” requests or if observes a patient in distress.
• Conduct initial assessment of the condition of the patient and determine the necessary course of action utilizing an approved patient care standing orders; and contact 911 and hand off patient to advanced level of care for transport to ED as indicated.
• Provide basic life support and operate within their license with the state of Minnesota and National EMS Scope of Practice Model.
• Documents assessment, triage decision, and patient care within EPIC; maintains HIPAA.
• Maintain competency in protocols and attend trainings as warranted.
• Check equipment and maintain cleanliness of equipment used by the rapid response team. Restocks equipment and supplies.
• Utilize system reporting tools to document actual or potential safety events

Required Qualifications

• EMT- Basic
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
