Position Description
The Teaching Assistant plays an important role in supporting and assisting the teacher(s) and students in a classroom. This position supports and assists students with a diverse range of needs and abilities in the general education and/or special education classrooms and programs as required.
Responsibilities May Include
- Assisting and supporting the classroom teacher(s) in providing instruction to students in subject area(s)
- Providing individual or group support to students
- Supervision of students across various settings throughout the school day
- Assisting students with daily activities, as required, including helping with mobility and personal care
- Assisting students with academic assignments to support academic achievement
- Adapting instructional materials for students with diverse learning styles
- Providing academic accommodations or modifications to students with special needs, following their individualized education plans (IEPs) or 504 Plans
- Providing the teacher with information about students that will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning experiences
- Assisting the teacher(s) in assessing student progress
- Attending building and district meetings and workshops as required
- Maintaining accurate records, as directed by teacher(s) or administration
- Other position related duties as assigned by building administrator and/or teacher(s)
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact positively with students, teachers and staff
- Ability to follow instructions and collaborate effectively with a team
- Patience, flexibility and empathy
- Ability to understand and respond to student(s) behavior

- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Proficient in using classroom technology, educational software and basic office applications
- Able to sit, stand and move around for extended periods of time
- Ability to assist students with physical needs
- Some positions may require assisting students with physical disabilities or mobility issues
- Must have New York State Certification as a Teaching Assistant – Level I, Level II, and Level III or have a New York State Certification as a teacher
- Prior experience working in Special Education preferred
- Prior experience working with children in an educational setting preferred
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Salary : $17
