Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Financial Reporting and Audit Manager oversees the University's external and internal financial reporting and audit functions. This role manages financial tracking of assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenses to produce accurate, compliant reports; manages all external audit projects from initiation through completion; assists in producing financial reports, maintains strong communication and relationships with the campus community and key financial stakeholders, while staying current on higher-education regulations and guidelines including but not limited to Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) implementations

Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Financial Reporting and Audit Manager oversees the University's external and internal financial reporting and audit functions. This role manages financial tracking of assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenses to produce accurate, compliant reports; manages all external audit projects from initiation through completion; assists in producing financial reports, maintains strong communication and relationships with the campus community and key financial stakeholders, while staying current on higher-education regulations and guidelines including but not limited to Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) implementations
Audit Management
- Audit Coordination: Lead the preparation of the University's annual audited consolidated financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies, federal and state laws, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards. Serve as the primary liaison for annual financial auditors, coordinate the annual audit processes, develop workpapers, prepare schedules and collect documentation. Additional audits include but are not limited to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Research & Development (R&D) and Single Financial Audit (SFA)
- Reporting: Complete all required and requested external reporting in compliance with state, federal and higher education reporting requirements for various third-party stakeholders, including but not limited to Internal Revenue Service (IRS), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC) and the State of West Virginia. Create regular, recurring and ad hoc internal reports as needed to support university-wide decision-making for all areas of the university campus
- Closing Processes: Assist with monthly, quarterly and year-end closing activities, including but not limited to preparing accrual entries, completing, reviewing and correcting journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial data to ensure the accuracy of financial information
Operational Processes
- Capital Assets: Identify, document, record, reconcile, and monitor all capital assets received and currently on file, including asset entry, asset tagging, and conduct quarterly departmental audits
- Cash: Complete data entry of university receipts, ensure cash transfers are completed accurately and in a timely manner, and provide prompt responses to all departmental inquiries regarding cash balances
- Financial Statements: Analyze interim financial results, identify significant variances, interpret data, work with the Finance team to compile monthly financial documents and make recommendations to support the financial accuracy of the university's financial information
Leadership
- Policy Development: Work with Finance team to evaluate, update, implement and document departmental and university-wide financial policies and procedures
- Unit Collaboration: Collaboration includes but is not limited to, working with the Budget Manager to ensure alignment between budget and actual reporting; partnering with the Finance Team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting; and collaborating with departments across the university to promote clear understanding of financial data and processes
- Improvement: Drive continuous improvement by automating manual processes and enhancing ERP system functionality for the University in conjunction with the State of WV's ERP system

Minimum Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in finance or accounting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proficiency in financial management software, systems and Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive financial matters professionally and confidentiality
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
