NATURE OF WORK
Fairfield Memorial Hospital is seeking a detail‑oriented, customer‑focused Patient Access Specialist (PAS) – Float to support the daily operational needs of our Horizon Healthcare outpatient clinics. This role plays a vital part in ensuring a smooth, efficient, and welcoming experience for patients across all Horizon Healthcare locations, including Urgent Care and satellite clinics. The PAS Float serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, performing essential registration, scheduling, and administrative functions. This position supports clinical staff, collaborates with nursing teams and providers, and assists in maintaining compliance with hospital and governmental policies. The primary home department is Fairfield Horizon, with floating responsibilities to all outpatient clinics as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcome patients and provide a professional, positive first impression.
- Collect, enter, and maintain accurate patient demographics, consents, and insurance information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Schedule appointments and ensure required forms and signatures are obtained.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Answer and route calls using a multi‑line phone system; address patient inquiries.
- Collect patient payments and document transactions accurately.
- Scan, upload, and file protected health information in accordance with established procedures.
- Compile and transmit required data to the FMH billing department.
- Assist clinical staff to maintain efficient patient flow and daily operations.
- Coordinate referrals, obtain outside medical records, and communicate with external offices or agencies.
- Float to all Horizon Healthcare outpatient clinics, including Urgent Care and satellite locations, based on departmental needs.
COMPENSATION: $17.50-$22.00 per hour
SCHEDULE: Day Shift; Monday- Friday

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE
- Preferred: Previous experience with electronic medical records (EMR); handling protected health information (PHI); patient registration and insurance verification; Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word; general office equipment and internet‑based applications.
