Chief Engineer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Chief Engineer to lead our hotel’s engineering and maintenance operations. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the property, equipment, building systems, guest rooms, and public areas to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and guest comfort.

The ideal candidate is a strong leader with excellent technical knowledge, a proactive approach to preventive maintenance, and the ability to respond effectively to maintenance emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the hotel engineering and maintenance team.
• Oversee daily maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance programs.
• Maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, life-safety, and building systems.
• Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and equipment.
• Respond promptly to engineering emergencies and guest maintenance requests.
• Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules and records.
• Monitor utility consumption and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.
• Coordinate and supervise outside contractors and vendors.
• Ensure compliance with local building, fire, health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Maintain required permits, inspections, certifications, and engineering documentation.
• Assist with capital projects, renovations, and major equipment replacements.
• Manage the engineering department’s inventory, tools, supplies, and operating expenses.
• Obtain quotes and assist with budgeting and purchasing as needed.
• Train engineering staff on safe work practices, equipment operation, and hotel procedures.
• Work closely with housekeeping, front office, food & beverage, and other departments to address maintenance needs.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment.
• Participate in an on-call or emergency response rotation as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by hotel management.

Qualifications:

• 3–5 years of hotel engineering, building maintenance, facilities, or related experience.
• Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building systems.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs.
• Knowledge of fire/life-safety systems and OSHA or applicable workplace safety requirements.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment and building-system problems effectively.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic computer skills and ability to maintain maintenance records.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins when necessary.
• Relevant trade licenses, certifications, or technical training are preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, and work in confined or mechanical spaces.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials as required.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors and in varying temperatures and conditions.
• Ability to safely operate or work around mechanical and electrical equipment.
