Summary
Organizes curriculum revision projects and develops, disseminates, and/or implements instructional programs and materials for general or special student populations; serves as a resource for the region, school, and departmental staff.
Qualifications
Required
- Master's degree.

Four (4) years of experience teaching in a related specialty, some of which may have been in a supervisory or administrative role.
- Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
- Postgraduate educational license with endorsement(s) designated as appropriate to the assignment.
- Knowledge of FCPS curriculum, instructional goals, procedures, and practices in field of specialization.
- Knowledge of growth and development and learning theory in specialty.
- Skill in assessment and evaluation of students with special needs or in special programs.
- Skill in teaching adult learners.
- Ability to manage curriculum development, in-service training, and related activities and provide a high level of instructional leadership for teachers and administrators.
- Excellent human relations skills and ability to establish and maintain a successful cooperative working relationship with appropriate school communities, and school-based and central office staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Preferred
- Endorsement in administration and supervision PreK-12. >

Major Duties/Essential Functions
- Plans, implements, monitors, evaluates, assesses, and modifies curriculum, instructional, and related programs in field of specialization.
- May act as the lead in team, project, or program activities.
- Reviews and selects texts and supplemental materials.
- Designs or modifies teacher guides and activity materials and encourages the integration of the components.
- Serves as a resource for teachers providing assistance, demonstrations and/or model lessons.
- Monitors programs to ensure compliance with federal and state legislation and Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) directives.
- Reviews and interprets current research with respect to curriculum and instruction methodologies.
- Provides detailed program support to regions, schools, departments and their senior management teams.
- Collaborates with all FCPS departments and offices as required or requested.
- Participates in the selection and placement of staff for regular, after-school, and summer school positions.
- Oversees all facets of summer school curriculum and instruction.
- Plans, designs, coordinates, facilitates, evaluates, and modifies staff development and in-service training programs for faculty, administrators, and departmental personnel.
- Provides expertise with respect to the development of online courses, Abacus training, and course adaptations for special education students.
- Represents the curriculum and instruction office in the teacher performance evaluation program as an observer and/or intervention team member.
- Participates in ad hoc projects; develops and oversees budget related to area of specialty.
- Participates in the selection and purchase of specialized equipment and may have responsibility for the custody, maintenance, and distribution of special equipment, instruments, etc.
- Assists with the assessment and placement of students to determine the eligibility of certain special programs or services and may supervise students at non-school work sites or direct the work of contractors and consultants working with students.
- Oversees the operations of a special purpose center for students, teachers, families, or other special populations.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
