Position Title: Swim Instructor
Location: All Fairfax County Park Authority Rec Centers
Hours: Part-time work, weekday evenings and weekend mornings
Salary: Starting at $24.94 per hour, up to $33.24 depending on experience and certifications
Overview: The Fairfax County Park Authority is dedicated to providing high-quality facilities and programs that promote recreation, enhance physical and mental well-being, and improve the overall quality of life for our community. Swim Instructors play a vital role in delivering these services by teaching students of all ages and skill levels essential swimming techniques and water safety skills. Our programs range from parent-and-child classes and beginner lessons to advanced and fitness-focused swimming sessions. All new instructors are required to complete an orientation and shadow an experienced instructor before leading classes independently.
Duties:
- Be dependable, enthusiastic and have a great attitude.
- Assure safety of all participants at all times.
- Prepare class routines for assigned classes.
- Instruct classes for a variety of age groups and swimming level competencies.
- Attend training opportunities and workshops.
- Provide appropriate and professional feedback to students/parents on progress.
- Maintain class area and equipment, cleaning up after class.
- Conduct program in accordance with the approved class curriculum.
- Complete administrative tasks.
- Provide outstanding customer service to all customers/class members.
- Planning, implementing and delivering effective and qualitative programs for customers of all ages and ability.
- Answer general questions about both registration and class placement.
- Communicate to the Aquatics Director in advance of any classes you will miss and finding a pre-approved sub.
- Complete all other duties as assigned by site manager.
Skills:
· Demonstrate a passion for swimming and teaching.
· Demonstrate an ability to work with a variety of ability, personality, and fitness levels.
· Ability to adapt and be flexible to teaching space/environment and different learning styles.
· Ability to receive constructive criticism and feedback from customers as well as supervisor.
· Flexible with an ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Must be able to work weekends.
· Must be at least 16 years old.
· Prior teaching experience or extensive swimming background.
· Must be a certified swim instructor through an accredited agency and/or be certified in the specialty you plan on teaching OR complete in-house instructor accreditation within 30 days of employment.
