POSITION SUMMARY
The E-Commerce Category Manager is responsible for the commercial performance of assigned product categories on Fairbank.com. This role develops and executes category strategies that drive revenue growth, gross margin improvement, product assortment optimization, customer satisfaction, and overall category profitability. The role serves as the business owner for assigned categories and focuses on category strategy, assortment optimization, pricing recommendations, product lifecycle management, merchandising execution, and category performance. This position does not directly own vendor sourcing, contract negotiations, purchase order execution, inventory replenishment, or supply chain operations, but partners closely with those functions to achieve category objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and execute category merchandising and assortment strategies that drive sales growth, profitability, customer engagement, and category performance.
- Serve as the business owner for assigned product categories and develop recommendations supporting revenue and margin growth.
- Analyze category sales trends, customer purchasing behavior, and market conditions to identify opportunities.
- Lead SKU rationalization and assortment optimization initiatives.
- Manage product lifecycle strategies including product launches, promotions, markdown recommendations, and exit strategies.
- Develop pricing and promotional recommendations that improve profitability and category performance.
- Maintain category analytics, reporting, and performance dashboards.
- Partner with Purchasing, Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Finance teams.
- Ensure product information, pricing, categorization, and merchandising data are accurate across digital channels.
ROLE SCOPE AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Accountable For: Category strategy and performance, assortment optimization, SKU productivity analysis, pricing recommendations, product lifecycle management, merchandising execution, promotional planning, category analytics, and product data quality.
Not Accountable For: Vendor sourcing and selection, contract negotiations, purchase order management, inventory replenishment planning, warehouse operations, transportation and logistics management, or supply chain execution.
QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in business, agronomy, engineering, marketing, supply chain, data analytics, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in category management, product management, merchandising, ecommerce, retail, distribution, or related disciplines.
- Must demonstrate familiarity with industrial, agricultural machinery or propane, parts and equipment.
- Strong analytical, financial, and commercial business acumen.
- Experience with ERP, ecommerce, PIM, and business intelligence platforms preferred.
