What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Action Coalition (HAC) - Coalition Coordinator position at Fair Budget Coalition?
Submission Due Date: December 8th, 2025
Contact for Inquiries: Niciah Mujahid, niciah@fairbudget.org and David Haiman david@movementmatters.net
I. Introduction
The Housing Action Coalition is seeking a qualified individual to serve as our first Coalition Coordinator. This is a full time position based in Washington, DC. The successful candidate will lead recruitment and development of coalition membership, coordinate and connect working committees, and help build the infrastructure for the Coalition to successfully move work in accordance with its long-term goals.
The purpose of the Housing Action Coalition is to build principled and strategic coordinated action among local housing advocates, organizers, and community leaders that moves us towards radical, structural changes to the housing system. This focus on deeper structural change is backed by an analysis of the last 25 years of housing advocacy and organizing.
District residents have won a myriad of tenants rights and funding for housing programs, yet the housing system continues to worsen for low income and working class residents. It is only through rigorous analysis of these trends and a shift to strategies that explicitly disrupt the commodified housing market that we will start to move towards a more just, equitable system.
The Housing Action Coalition recognizes that our current advocacy (both collective and disparate) is working to yield incremental wins but is insufficient for tackling the more radical and structural change necessary to achieve housing justice in DC. Further, we believe that incremental, shorter-term efforts can move us towards these “mountain top goals”, but only if we are diligent and aligned in our analysis about what needs to change.

The Coalition Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Building the Coalition’s membership. This will include assessing, tracking, and maintaining current Coalition membership, connecting with former members to evaluate potential return to the Coalition, and recruiting and orienting new members based on Coalition needs.
