POSITION: Shelter Facilities Manager REPORTS TO: Program Director CATEGORY: Full-Time/Exempt/PermanentLOCATION: In-Person, Falls Church, Virginia PROGRAM: Bailey's Crossroad Community Shelter Position Summary: The Shelter Facilities Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe, clean, and efficient operation of a 72-bed homeless shelter and Personal Living Quarters (PLQs). This role oversees all aspects of facility maintenance, including building systems, repairs, preventative maintenance, safety compliance, and vendor coordination. The Facilities Manager supports the daily functioning of the shelter by maintaining a welcoming, well-managed environment where residents, staff, and volunteers can thrive. Working closely with program leadership, this position helps ensure that the facility remains clean, safe, sanitary, and fully operational for individuals transitioning out of homelessness. Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain the interior and exterior of the shelter facility in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition in accordance with health and safety standards. Work closely with the Program Director and the Operations Coordinator to report issues, submit work orders timely to OPEH, troubleshoot solutions, and estimate associated costs. Provides weekly status updates on all outstanding maintenance tasks and projects. Oversees and ensures all maintenance concerns and work orders are promptly communicated to OPEH and the Program Director. Performs minor repairs and routine maintenance tasks such as clearing toilet drains, changing lightbulbs and smoke detector batteries, unclogging sinks, caulking, replacing filters, moving furniture, touch-up painting, unit turn over tasks, and other routine maintenance. Performs maintenance and troubleshooting for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, alarm, and other building systems to ensure safe and efficient facility operations. Inspect units for safety and habitability ensuring compliance with building codes and health and safety standards. Maintains an updated inventory of cleaning and repair supplies and conducts quarterly reviews to ensure adequate stock and identify replenishment needs. Develops and maintains professional relationships with all service vendors and escorts them throughout the facility to ensure timely and proper completion of repairs and maintenance tasks. Maintains cleaning and repair equipment to ensure it is in safe, good working condition and ready for use in maintaining the shelter facility. Maintains accurate and up to date records of all maintenance repairs, ensuring proper documentation for compliance and operational tracking. Ensures the timely completion and submission of required reports in accordance with programmatic guidelines. Facilitates and actively participates in monthly Facilities By-Names-List (BNL) meetings with the OPEH Facilities team and Bailey’s Shelter Case Managers to coordinate housing efforts and address facility related needs. Works a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed to support program operations and client needs. Represents FACETS in the community, in accord with Agency Mission, Vision, and Code of Ethics. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: High school diploma or equivalent diploma/GED required plus at least two (2) years of experience with responsibility for facility maintenance, sanitation and over-all janitorial duties. Ability to coordinate, monitor, and ensure work is completed by self, volunteers, or by contracted vendors. Must be able to perform facility and household repairs including, but not limited to, electrical work, plumbing, and installing household fixtures. Must be able to perform housekeeping and janitorial duties.Must be able to ensure adequate supplies are maintained and available for accomplishing tasks. Must be able to lift and move furniture. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Results-oriented, highly organized, able to manage work tasks and to maintain program records. Individuals who have knowledge of homelessness and housing issues or have participated in homeless or housing programs are encouraged to apply. Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, good driving record, and personal car insurance. Ability to drive 15 passenger van. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, including Microsoft Excel.Must pass criminal and Child Protective Services background checks.Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times. Must be able to attend occasional meetings at other FACETS office locations within Fairfax County, including 3 annual organization-wide fundraising events each year.
