Position Summary

Faber Construction is seeking a highly detail-oriented and dependable Payroll & Human Resources Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll and serves as the primary resource for payroll administration, compliance, reporting, and employee payroll inquiries.

The ideal candidate will possess strong payroll knowledge, exceptional attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality. While the position's primary focus is payroll administration, candidates should also have exposure to and experience supporting human resources functions, including employee onboarding, recordkeeping, benefits administration, and general HR support.

This position works closely with employees, supervisors, and accounting, to ensure payroll is processed correctly and in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Payroll Administration (Primary Responsibility)

  • Process regular payroll accurately and on schedule for hourly and salaried employees.
  • Review and audit timesheets, timekeeping records, payroll changes, and payroll reports to ensure accuracy prior to payroll processing.
  • Maintain employee payroll records, tax withholding information, direct deposit information, and deductions.
  • Calculate and process:

o Overtime

o Garnishments

o Payroll adjustments

o Paid time off

o Retroactive pay adjustments

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations.
  • Reconcile payroll data and investigate payroll discrepancies.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, leave balances, and payroll-related matters.
  • Prepare payroll reports, audits, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and reconciliation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll and employee information.
  • Monitor payroll-related legislative and regulatory changes and recommend process improvements when appropriate.
  • Assist with payroll system maintenance, testing, upgrades, and process improvements.

Human Resources Support (Secondary Responsibility)

  • Assist with employee onboarding and orientation processes.
  • Maintain employee personnel files and HR records.
  • Support benefits administration activities, including enrollment changes and employee communication.
  • Assist with leave administration, employee status changes, and employment documentation.
  • Support recruiting and hiring activities as needed.
  • Help ensure compliance with company policies and employment regulations.
  • Assist with HR reporting and special projects.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to employees and supervisors regarding HR-related questions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of payroll principles, practices, and payroll compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws.
  • WA State Certified Payroll experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with payroll tax withholding, garnishments, and payroll reporting requirements.
  • Experience working with payroll software and timekeeping systems.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of human resources experience.
  • Experience with payroll systems, timekeeping systems, and payroll reporting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer and data entry skills.

Preferred

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in:

o Business Administration

o Accounting

o Finance

o Human Resources

o Related field

  • Experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience processing certified payrolls.
  • Experience with benefits administration.
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and electronic employee records.

  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry office materials up to 20 pounds.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
