Position Summary
Own the flow of inbound and outbound material for a high volume rebar fabrication and construction supply environment. This role verifies accuracy of shipments, completes all paperwork (BOLs, packing lists, MTRs), maintains real time inventory accuracy, and coordinates closely with production, sales, and drivers. Expect heavy materials, fast turnarounds, and high demand for accurate documentation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Inbound (Receiving):
- Inspect, count, and reconcile incoming steel/rebar and supplies against purchase orders, mill tags, and MTRs.
- Document discrepancies immediately and initiate corrective actions with vendors and Purchasing.
- Enter receipts into the inventory system; label/tag bundles accurately to match mill tags.
- Outbound (Shipping):
- Pull, stage, and verify materials for delivery or will call; ensure tags and paperwork match customer orders.
- Prepare complete delivery packets (drawings, MTRs, sales orders, BOLs) and obtain required signatures.
- Schedule pickups/ deliveries with customers and carriers; communicate status updates to Sales and Production.
- Inventory Control:
- Perform cycle counts and full physical counts; investigate and reconcile variances.
- Maintain an up to date list of bundles requiring new/replacement tags.
- Documentation & Systems:
- Maintain electronic and physical files for invoices, delivery tickets, and certifications.
- Enter/verify data in RMS/ERP/Excel with near zero errors.
- Equipment & Safety:
- Conduct and log daily forklift/hoist inspections; report defects immediately.
- Enforce and follow all safety procedures when working around heavy materials and moving equipment.
- Help keep the warehouse/yard organized and hazard free.
- Cross Functional Support:
- Coordinate with Production on fabrication status and tag printing.
- Professionally field calls/visits, directing inquiries to the correct contacts.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional logistics or inventory coursework a plus.
- 3 years in shipping/receiving or inventory control—preferably with heavy industrial materials (steel, construction supplies).
- Strong math skills (counts, weights, conversions) and attention to detail—errors cost money.
- Proficiency with inventory software and Excel; able to learn RMS/ERP quickly.
- Clear, professional communication (written and verbal).
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
- Ability to multitask and stay calm when priorities collide.
Physical & Environmental Requirements (ADA Compliant)
- Frequently lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs; occasionally more with assistance/mechanical aids.
- Prolonged standing, walking, reaching, stooping, crouching, handling materials.
- Manual hand dexterity for tagging, paperwork, and data entry.
- Work in non climate controlled areas (heat, cold, dust, noise).
- Required PPE: steel toe boots, gloves, eye/ear protection, etc.
