Role Overview
The EHS Specialist is responsible for overseeing and continuously improving the environmental, health, and safety programs within our Pittsburgh facilities. This role ensures regulatory compliance, promotes a strong safety culture, and leads the implementation of EHS initiatives across the region. This is a multi-site role requiring regular travel and strong collaboration with internal teams and external regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Auditing
- Apply working knowledge of OSHA and PA environmental regulations.
- Conduct audits and inspections to ensure compliance with EHS regulations, permits, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with federal guidelines.
- Engage with regulatory agencies through clear written and verbal communication.
Program & Policy Management
- Develop, implement, and manage EHS programs, including corrective actions and incident tracking.
- Maintain EHS policies, procedures, job safety analyses (JSAs), and environmental management systems (ISO 14001).
- Support EHS considerations in ongoing operations, equipment evaluations, and contractor oversight.
Training & Engagement
- Organize and deliver training on environmental and safety topics.
- Lead or participate in safety committees and promote compliance through leadership, coaching, and audits.
- Strong communication and consultative skills across all organizational levels.
Risk Assessment & Technical Support
- Conduct job hazard analyses and risk assessments.
- Provide EHS guidance for new processes, equipment, and facility improvements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Environmental, Health & Safety roles within manufacturing; chemical industry experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 14001 and Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
- Proficient in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Engineering, or related sciences required
Salary : $75,000 - $112,000
