Job Summary
The Engineer I, OSP Engineering will support the planning, design, and implementation of outside plant (OSP) infrastructure for fiber optic and telecommunications networks. This entry-level role assists in the development of construction plans, engineering documentation, and field surveys to support network builds, upgrades, and maintenance. The ideal candidate has a foundational understanding of OSP design standards and is eager to grow within a dynamic engineering team.

Education and Experience requirements: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience preferred; internships or co-op experience considered

The ideal candidate has a foundational understanding of OSP design standards and is eager to grow within a dynamic engineering team.
Essential Functions
- Assist in the design and drafting of fiber routes using GIS, CAD, or similar platforms
- Support field data collection efforts, including site surveys and pole/underground assessments
- Interpret construction prints, permits, and municipal right-of-way requirements
- Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and utilities to ensure accurate OSP design and documentation
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, including design drawings, BOMs, and redlines
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, local ordinances, and safety regulations
- Track project progress and support issue resolution under supervision of senior engineers
- Provide technical support during construction and post-construction validation

- Familiarity with OSP principles including aerial, underground, and conduit systems
- Basic knowledge of GIS/CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, QGIS, 3-GIS, ArcGIS)
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Willingness to work in the field and travel locally as needed
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and utility maps
- Experience with fiber network design tools or telecom databases
- Exposure to permitting processes and utility coordination
- Understanding of NESC, NEC, and local utility construction codes
