We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Product Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of mechanical products, ensuring they meet functional, aesthetic, and performance requirements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including drafting, R&D, manufacturing, procurement, quality control, customer service and commercial to deliver high-quality, innovative products. Work will include the creation of previously non-existent products or the modification of existing products, including product line extensions. The typical cycle includes conceptualizing, developing prototypes, testing and refining designs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design & Development
Lead and/or execute the design and development of mechanical and electro-mechanical products, from concept through prototype and into production.
Utilize CAD and PLM software (SolidWorks) to create, store, and otherwise manage detailed 3D models and technical drawings.
Release and update drawings through the ECR/ECN process.
Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, accurate FEA studies (SolidWorks), and hand calculations
Apply GD&T to technical drawings.
Analyze new and legacy product design for cost efficiency, manufacturability, and performance. Execute VA/VE initiatives, recommending alternative materials, manufacturing processes, or configurations.
Supports the design of customs products, as needed.
Assist tool makers in design and development of tooling and jigs as needed.
Contributes to the improvement of CAD, PLM, PDM, revision control, configuration management, and other relevant departmental processes.
Supports efforts for standardization and improved efficiency in department workflows
Prototyping & Testing
Collaborate with R&D to order materials and schedule prototype builds for validating design concepts.
Work with R&D to plan and execute testing and analysis to ensure products meet performance, reliability, and cosmetic requirements.
Analyze test results and turn testing data into actionable insights towards product acceptance / readiness.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with the Marketing and Commercial departments to align product designs with business and customer needs.
Work with the R&D, manufacturing, and production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective through design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) reviews.
Collaborate with suppliers to select optimal materials, components, and manufacturing processes.
Support vendor selection process and
Compliance & Standards
Ensure products meet industry standards, safety regulations, and quality standards.
Research and stay up-to-date with relevant codes and best practices, helping to ensure that all product lines meet agency and governmental standards (e.g., ADA, IBC, OSHA).
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of design specifications, test results, and product revisions. Prepare reports and presentations, using MS Word or MS PowerPoint, for stakeholders as needed.
Utilizes Excel or similar tools to create visual communication aids through charts, graphs, etc.
Generate and maintain costed BOMs.
Generate and maintain related project documentation (e.g., WBS, project schedule, DFMEA, risk register, lessons learned, etc.) as required.
Troubleshooting & Support
Provide technical support during the manufacturing and testing phases and troubleshoot design issues that arise in production.
Utilize Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to diagnose testing and field issues.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
3 to 5 years of experience in mechanical product design or engineering in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systems.
Experience with product testing, including failure analysis, performance testing, and material selection.
Proficiency with product lifecycle management (PLM) software and version control.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Demonstrated knowledge of electrical and mechanical design.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Experienced with Microsoft Office products.
Intermediate skillset with Microsoft Excel to generate calculations, proposed test plans and methods, documenting and charting results, expense tracking, and cost estimations.
Intermediate skillset with Microsoft PowerPoint for generating presentations that communicate processes, results, and proposals.
Basic knowledge and experience with tools to estimate and communicate timelines, such as Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, or ClickUp.
Experienced with CAD (computer-aided design) software, preferably SolidWorks, for the purpose of design management with prototype / production tools, test fixtures, product improvement concepts. An intermediate skillset is desired with the aptitude to generate efficient solid models and engineering drawings, and work within a PDM / PLM environment for engineering data management.
Experienced with slicing software for 3D printers to generate prototypes or tangible, illustrative samples.
Experienced with FEA software to predict failure and optimize structural performance.
Strong working knowledge of ERP / MRP processes; Great Plains experience a plus but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires approximately 10% travel, primarily to other plant locations in KY.
