We are a 45-year-old, family-owned residential construction company serving Southwest Michigan, specializing in custom homes, renovations, and additions. We are seeking a highly skilled Carpenter / Working Foreman to join our team.
This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced carpenter who takes pride in quality craftsmanship and can work independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate is a motivated, team-oriented professional with strong leadership skills, excellent attention to detail, and extensive experience in residential construction.
As a Carpenter / Working Foreman, you will actively perform carpentry and construction work while coordinating daily job site activities, leading small crews when needed, maintaining project schedules, and ensuring every project is completed safely, efficiently, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform all aspects of residential carpentry and construction with exceptional craftsmanship.
- Lead and coordinate daily job site activities while working alongside the crew.
- Supervise and motivate small crews, providing clear direction and maintaining productivity.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Read and accurately interpret blueprints, construction drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Ensure work is completed according to project plans, schedules, and quality expectations.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to maintain project progress.
- Monitor material usage and assist with job planning and scheduling.
- Conduct quality control inspections throughout each phase of construction.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site.
- Enforce OSHA safety standards and company safety policies through regular site inspections and safe work practices.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, homeowners, and fellow team members.
- Operate construction equipment as needed, including skid steers (Uniloaders), excavators, Pettibones, and trailers.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7-10 years of hands-on residential construction and exceptional carpentry experience.
- Extensive knowledge of custom home construction, renovations, and additions.
- Proven ability to work independently and solve problems with minimal direction.
- Strong leadership experience supervising and mentoring construction crews.
- Thorough understanding of residential construction methods, sequencing, scheduling, and industry best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, construction drawings, and technical documents.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and maintaining project schedules.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to operate construction equipment, including skid steers, excavators, Telehandler, and tow trailers safely and efficiently.
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.
