What are the responsibilities and job description for the Precision CNC Setup Specialist (Mills & Lathes) position at Express Employment Professionals - Milwaukee (West)?
You start your shift with a stack of work orders and detailed blueprints. You select and install the right tooling, fixtures, and jigs, then set up CNC mills and lathes so production can run smoothly. Next, you load and verify CNC programs (no programming required), dial in offsets, and fine-tune speeds and feeds for new jobs. You run a first article, perform a meticulous inspection to make sure every feature meets spec, and make any final adjustments before releasing the job to production. Throughout the day, you troubleshoot setup, tooling, or program-execution issues to keep output consistent and high quality across stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum.
What you’ll handle- Set up CNC mills and lathes by installing tooling, fixtures, and jigs per blueprints
- Load, verify, and prove out CNC programs (no programming required)
- Run first articles and confirm parts meet specifications
- Troubleshoot and correct setup, tooling, or program-related issues
- Adjust offsets, speeds, and feeds for new production runs
- Maintain consistent quality across varied materials
- CNC Mills (Milling Machines) and CNC Lathes (Turning Centers)
- FANUC and TUMA-controlled machines
- Materials: stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum
- Machines & technologies: CNC Mill (5 axis VMC) and CNC Lathe (5 axis)
- 3–4 years of experience in CNC setup for mills and lathes
- Strong grasp of blueprint reading, G-code fundamentals, and basic shop mathematics
- Proven ability to independently set up machines and validate production readiness
- Personal hand tools supplied and maintained by you
