Responsibilities
- Draft, proofread, edit, and format legal and business documents, including correspondence, agreements, amendments, and related materials on behalf of the company and its franchisees, under the direct supervision of a supervising attorney
- Serve as the primary contract specialist within the Legal Department, overseeing client-facing and franchise-related contracts throughout their lifecycle
- Manage contract workflow for the Legal Department, including reviewing, drafting, redlining, negotiating, and finalizing client-facing contracts and staffing agreements in collaboration with internal subject matter experts and supervising attorneys
- Perform detailed issue-spotting reviews of franchisee lease agreements; prepare concise summary correspondence outlining key risks, terms, obligations, and recommendations; and escalate complex or high-risk matters to supervising attorneys
- Conduct legal, regulatory, and compliance research to support contract development, risk assessments, franchisee inquiries, and department initiatives
- Receive, triage, and respond to incoming legal inquiries (via phone, email, and other channels) from the company and franchisees; provide clear answers to routine questions, compile and analyze information for independent recommendations (as delegated), or appropriately escalate complex issues to supervising attorneys or relevant subject matter experts
- Organize, maintain, and update legal files, contract records, templates, and documentation systems to ensure accuracy, accessibility, confidentiality, and compliance with company policies
- Provide comprehensive administrative and operational support to attorneys, including clerical tasks, file management, deadline tracking, and other projects as assigned to enhance Legal Department efficiency
- Perform additional duties and special projects as required to support the Legal Department's objectives
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Paralegal certification from an accredited program, associate's degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, business administration, or a related field strongly preferred; some college-level coursework in a relevant discipline is a plus
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or comparable setting, with hands-on involvement in contract review, drafting, legal document preparation, research, or paralegal support functions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Word and Excel for document formatting, redlining, and tracking) and familiarity with legal-specific tools such as contract management software, Legal Tracker, Westlaw, Practical Law, or similar document/electronic filing systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to draft, proofread, edit, and produce clear, accurate legal correspondence, agreements, and summaries
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and maintain high accuracy under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Keen attention to detail and ability to manage complex information with speed, precision, and a high degree of confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive matters
- Superior interpersonal and collaboration skills, with proven ability to build effective relationships across internal teams, departments, and external stakeholders
- Flexibility and adaptability to handle varied duties, including non-standard hours as needed to meet critical deadlines, and willingness to take on additional projects as required
