Position: Corporate Tax Accountant
Reporting to: Director of Accounting, with dotted line to Chief Financial Officer
Role Overview
As Expansive scales its portfolio of owned and managed flex workspace properties, we are seeking a Corporate Tax Accountant to take ownership of the company’s tax function. This is a high-visibility role working directly with the CFO and Director of Accounting and has responsibility for federal and multi-state partnership returns, K-1 preparation and distribution, and tax compliance across a growing base of property-level and corporate entities. For a CPA or MST looking to move in-house, this is a rare opportunity to shape the tax function of an active real estate operating platform.
Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting
•Prepare federal, state, and local income tax returns for property and corporate entities.
•Oversee timely preparation and distribution of K-1s to investors and partners.
•Maintain compliance with all multi-state income and franchise tax requirements, including entity-related taxes as well as payroll / employer / employee-related state and local taxes.
•Manage quarterly estimated tax payments and extensions.
•Prepare and file sales/use tax returns, business license renewals, and other local tax obligations across all operating jurisdictions.
•Coordinate with any external tax advisors and manage transition of work in-house as the function matures.
Tax Planning & Strategy
•Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess impact on company and associated partnerships.
•Identify tax planning opportunities to optimize corporate structure and tax liabilities.
•Support the CFO and Director of Accounting in evaluating tax implications of acquisitions, dispositions, and new partnership structures.
•Analyze depreciation strategies (cost segregation, bonus depreciation) applicable to the company’s real property assets.
Corporate and Investor Accounting Support
•Assist with annual audits and financial reporting as it relates to income taxes.
•Assist with special projects including entity formation/dissolution/maintenance
•Maintain investor records and capital account tracking; serve as point of contact for investor tax inquiries, including K-1 questions.
•Lead investor accounting, including processing and recording investor distributions
Compliance & Process Improvement
•Build and maintain a master tax calendar covering all federal, state, and local filing deadlines across every entity; develop supporting internal documentation and checklists.
•Implement process improvements and systems to streamline tax workflows.
•Respond to tax notices, audits, or correspondence from taxing authorities.
Attributes and Qualifications:
•Willingness to learn and desire to work in an entrepreneurial environment
•3–6 years of tax experience, with at least 2 years at a Big 4 or regional public accounting firm; candidates looking to make their first in-house move are strongly encouraged to apply.
•Real estate experience strongly preferred
•Strong knowledge of partnership and corporate taxation, including experience with K-1s.
•Experience working with multi-state filings and compliance.
•Experience in the real estate industry or with real estate partnership structures.
•Experience with Yardi Voyager or comparable real estate accounting platforms preferred.
•Comfortable in a lean, entrepreneurial environment where collaboration is key.
•Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines.
•Ability to work cross-functionally and asynchronously with remote and in-person teams
•Excellent organizational skills and discipline to stay focused

Education:
CPA required or actively in process; MST (Master of Taxation) a plus. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
