Position Overview: Payroll Specialist

Required - 1 day in the EXL Jersey City office

Compensation - $55,000 - $65,000 plus 10% bonus and benefits

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Representative to join our Global Payroll Operations team. This position will be responsible for accurate and timely end-to-end payroll processing for employees across the U.S., Canada, and Ireland, ensuring compliance with all applicable payroll regulations and taxation requirements. The role requires a strong understanding of multi-state and international payroll complexities and the ability to identify and resolve exceptions and escalations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process bi-weekly/semi-monthly payrolls for multi-state employee population in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
• Ensure accurate calculation and timely payment of wages, taxes, deductions
• Resolve payroll discrepancies timely
• Support payroll audits, year-end processing (W-2s), and regulatory reporting
• Manage payroll inquiries through the ticketing system, ensuring responses are completed in accordance with established SLAs
• Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Benefits to ensure data accuracy and process alignment
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team
• Self-motivated and able to manage priorities and work independently with minimal supervision

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
• Minimum of 5 years of payroll processing experience, including multi-state payroll
• Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
• Experience with payroll systems (e.g., Dayforce, ADP, Paychex)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Excel – MS Suite
• Strong time management skills and ability to meet demanding deadlines
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
