What are the responsibilities and job description for the Carpenter/Laborer position at Exeter Paint Remodeling?
EP Remodel is the trades arm of Exeter Paint Remodel & Design, a small design-build company backed by an in-house design team and a paint and design showroom that has been on Portsmouth Avenue in Exeter since 1995. This role is the hands-on backbone of every job we run — the person who keeps the site moving, the material staged, and the lead carpenter cutting instead of hauling. It is a full-time position with steady year-round work and a clear path toward more skilled carpentry for someone who shows up and learns.
What You’ll Do
This is a working role. Roughly half the day is carpentry alongside the Lead Carpenter, and roughly half is the site work that makes the carpentry possible.
– Assist the Lead Carpenter with framing, blocking, furring, subfloor, door and window installation, and rough trim.
– Perform demolition — selective, controlled, and protected, not swung.
– Load, unload, stage, and stock material so the next phase is ready before it starts.
– Set up and break down site protection: floor covering, dust walls, plastic, tape, and containment.
– Run debris to the dumpster or transfer station and keep the site broom-clean at the end of every day.
– Make supply runs and vendor pickups as directed, including from the Exeter Paint showroom.
– Support punch list work — caulking, patching, hardware, touch-ups, and final cleaning.
– Assist other trades on site with access, staging, and cleanup when scheduled.
– Report material shortages, damage, unforeseen conditions, and schedule slips to the Lead Carpenter the day they are discovered — not at the end of the week.
– Maintain company tools, vehicles, and equipment in working order and report anything broken or missing immediately.
What We’re Looking For
– Two or more years on residential job sites in a carpentry, laborer, or trades helper role.
– Comfortable and safe with standard power tools — circular saw, miter saw, drill, driver, nail guns.
– Able to read a tape accurately, follow a plan set, and take direction without needing it repeated.
– Able to repeatedly lift and carry 50 pounds, work on ladders, and stay on your feet for a full day.
– Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and a clean enough record to drive a company vehicle.
– Shows up on time, every day, and communicates in advance when that is not possible.
– Presentable and respectful in occupied homes — most of our work happens with the client living there.
Helpful, Not Required
– Finish carpentry, tile setting, drywall, or painting experience.
– OSHA 10 certification.
– EPA RRP lead-safe certification (we will pay for this if you don’t have it).
– Experience with a job management platform such as JobTread.
Pay: $23.00 - $40.00 per hour
