Executive
San Francisco, CA Other
POSTED ON 5/13/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/13/2026

Citi’s U.S. Commercial Bank (CCB) is a high‑growth platform serving emerging, mid‑market, and large companies with revenues ranging from $100 million to $3 billion. At the core of this platform is Commercial Lending Management (CLM)—an in‑business, first‑line credit organization that partners closely with Coverage, Product, and Independent Risk to deliver disciplined underwriting, strong portfolio oversight, and scalable credit solutions.

We are seeking a Director, Subsector Head – Digital, Technology & Communications (DTC) to join the DTC Industry vertical, reporting directly to the U.S. CLM DTC Industry Head.

This role can be based in San Francisco or New York, Citi’s primary hubs for technology, innovation, and commercial credit leadership.

This is a senior Director‑level role with meaningful credit authority, leadership over VP Credit Officers, and high visibility across Banking, Risk, and executive stakeholders.

Role Overview

The Subsector Head is responsible for credit strategy, underwriting oversight, and portfolio risk management for the Digital, Technology & Communications subsector. The role partners closely with Coverage leadership to execute on agreed strategy, with particular focus on pipeline management, less complex transactions, portfolio health, and control remediation.

In addition to credit oversight, this role plays a key leadership function in developing VP Credit Officers and junior staff, ensuring strong governance, consistent underwriting quality, and disciplined risk outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Credit Strategy & Underwriting Oversight

  • Lead credit underwriting standards, approval readiness, and portfolio oversight for the DTC subsector
  • Partner with Coverage to assess transactions, structure solutions, and balance risk/reward trade‑offs
  • Review and challenge approval packages prior to submission to Senior Credit Officer forums

Portfolio Management & Risk Governance

  • Lead pipeline, portfolio, and risk reviews across the subsector
  • Ensure accurate risk ratings, classifications, collateral considerations, and early‑warning identification
  • Drive remediation efforts and maintain strong compliance as a First Line of Defense leader

Senior Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent credit in client discussions and internal governance forums
  • Serve as a trusted thought partner to Coverage, Product, Independent Risk, and Control functions
  • Provide informed, balanced perspectives on credit risk and client solutions

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead and develop a team of VP Credit Officers and junior credit professionals
  • Drive technical skill development, mentorship, and succession planning
  • Promote consistent application of best practices across the subsector

Strategic Initiatives & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead or contribute to U.S. and global CLM initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting efficiency, scalability, and controls
  • Champion enhancements to credit processes supporting innovation‑driven clients

Qualifications & Experience

  • 13 years of experience in commercial credit underwriting, credit risk management, or senior banking roles
  • Strong experience supporting Digital, Technology, Communications, or innovation‑driven businesses
  • Proven ability to exercise sound credit judgment and clearly articulate risk/reward views
  • Leadership experience managing and developing senior credit professionals
  • Executive‑level written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Experience in a large, complex financial institution
  • Exposure to a broad range of commercial lending products
  • Advanced degree or formal credit training a plus, but not required
