Duties

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To The Following

  • Develops financial policy directives, including any agency guidance, necessary to effect improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of resource management operations.
  • Serves as a member of the finance advisory team and issues instructions needed.
  • Interprets financial guidelines and establishes master schedule for logical sequencing and timely accomplishment of the financial reporting cycles.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates a variety of incoming accounting reports to interpret results of operations, to track financial trends and events, and to resolve complex and diverse fiduciary and/or financial management problems.
  • Plans operations, systems changes, and systems services for the Unified Financial Management System (UFMS).
  • Manages the work of the staff engaged in financial management functions that support EOIR programs and operations.

  • You must be a current permanent Department of Justice employee with competitive status or a CTAP/RPL eligible candidate.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Supervisory Financial Management Specialist, at GS-0501-14, you must meet the qualification requirements listed below.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS - 13 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level. (Please submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. If your eligibility for both merit promotion and/or time-in-grade cannot be determined, your application will be rated ineligible. Please see Required Documents for additional information). Time-in-grade requirements also apply to VEOA applicants having held a GS position in the past year.

For The Gs-14 Level

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:

  • Providing direction, leadership, and supervision in developing, implementing, and updating policies, standards, and guidance pertaining to budget and financial management programs and services for an organization;
  • Planning workflow and work assignments for staff by setting and adjusting short term work priorities;
  • Developing performance standards and evaluating staffs work performance; and
  • Managing the planning, evaluation, and reviewing of an organizations financial management systems.
