Assistant Financial Controller

Our client is a leading construction, general contracting, and disaster response company in the Galveston, TX area. Looking for someone to work with the Controller in A/P, A/R, and month/year end closing.

Job Description

Salary : $125000 - $125000

The Assistant Financial Controller partners closely with the Financial Controller, Divisional Controllers, and General Ledger accountants to support accurate accounting processes and compliant financial reporting across affiliated entities.

This role is accountable for overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and the monthly and annual close cycles. The successful candidate is highly detail-focused, communicates clearly, and thrives in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment. The position reports to the Financial Controller or an assigned delegate.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Compile, review, and consolidate monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Support the General Ledger team during month-end close, including balance sheet reconciliations.
• Perform bank reconciliations and escalate variances or issues to the Financial Controller.
• Prepare and review journal entries such as payroll, cash activity, and intercompany transactions.
• Supervise accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure accuracy and on-time processing.
• Assist with internal and external audits, including year-end, governmental, state, and insurance audits.
• Establish, document, and improve accounting policies and procedures to promote consistent financial reporting.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff through training and ongoing guidance.
• Communicate accounting standards, policies, and procedural updates to divisional teams.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and compliance practices.
• Participate in ERP system implementations or conversions, including testing and user training.
• Provide analytical support, ad hoc reporting, and assistance with special projects as requested by management.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related discipline.
• At least five years of experience in a senior accounting or accounting management role.
• Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing financial statements.
• Strong background in general ledger accounting and month-end close processes.
• Prior experience in the construction industry (general contractor or subcontractor) is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of accuracy with the ability to review and validate both personal and team output.
• Strong organizational and time-management capabilities.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
• Familiarity with CMIC is highly desirable.
